Horst Raspe was a German actor and voice actor born in Berlin on May 2, 1925. He began his career as a stage actor in 1947 at the Munich Kammerspiele before taking on numerous film and television roles from the early 1950s onward. While he appeared in productions such as Percy Adlon’s Der Vormund und sein Dichter and Céleste, as well as television series like Die fünfte Kolonne and Der Kommissar, he became best known for his extensive work as a voice actor for radio dramas and German-language dubbing.

In the realm of anime and animated series, Raspe is recognized for providing the German voice of Myoga in the series Inu Yasha. His other notable voice roles include Abe Simpson in The Simpsons, whom he voiced from the tenth to the fifteenth season, and the character Pan Tau in the Czechoslovakian series of the same name. He also voiced Gustavsson in the German audio drama productions of Pettersson und Findus. Beyond animation, his voice work for international films included dubbing actors such as Bruce Dern, Harrison Ford, and Dennis Weaver.

Raspe was active in radio drama productions for Bavarian Broadcasting, working both as a speaker and a director. Among his many audio drama credits are the German adaptations of Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, in which he played the role of Butterbur the innkeeper. His son, Johannes Raspe, also works as a voice actor and is known for roles including Mamoru Chiba (Tuxedo Mask) in Sailor Moon Crystal and Marco in One Piece. Horst Raspe died in Munich on December 19, 2004.
