Wim van Rooij was a Dutch actor and voice actor known for his work on Dutch-language dubs of numerous international films and television series. Born on January 24, 1932 in Son, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands, he had a long career that spanned both live-action television and voice-over work before his death on November 5, 2017 in The Hague.

As a voice actor, van Rooij was particularly active in dubbing animated features and foreign films into Dutch from the mid-1990s until the early 2010s. One of his notable roles in anime was providing the Dutch voice for Solomon Muto, also referred to as Grandpa, in the 2004 film Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light. This character is the grandfather of the protagonist Yugi Muto and an experienced Duel Monsters player who passes his knowledge on to the younger generation.

Beyond his anime work, van Rooij had an extensive career dubbing characters in major film franchises. He was perhaps best known as the Dutch voice of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the first eight Harry Potter films, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001 and continuing through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011. He also voiced Doc Hudson in the Dutch version of Cars and its related shorts, Anton Ego in Ratatouille, Rick Dicker in The Incredibles and the short film Jack-Jack Attack, and King Harold in the Shrek sequels Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, and Shrek Forever After.

His other voice credits include Colonel Hathi in The Jungle Book 2, Geppetto in the 1995 Dutch dub of Disney's Pinocchio, Panoramix in Astérix & Obélix contre César, Fowler in Chicken Run, Preston Whitmore in Atlantis: The Lost Empire and its sequel, and the narrator for Princess Sissi. He also provided voices for episodes of the Dutch version of SpongeBob SquarePants. Van Rooij was additionally the Dutch voice for the character Pettson in multiple films from the Pettson and Findus series across several years.

Prior to his voice-over career, van Rooij worked as a live-action television and film actor. His on-screen credits included roles in series such as Baantjer, Grijpstra & de Gier, and the miniseries Juliana, prinses van Oranje, as well as television films like De kersentuin and De enclave. This extensive background in performance contributed to his prolific output as a Dutch dubbing artist, making him a familiar voice to Dutch audiences in many of the most popular animated and fantasy films of his era.
