Sylviane Margollé
Description
Sylviane Margollé was a French actress whose career included significant work as a voice actor, most notably providing the French voice for the title character in the animated series Candy Candy. She was born Sylviane Christiane Paulette Margollé on October 3, 1950 in Paris, France, and began her performance career at a very young age as a child actress in French cinema and television during the 1950s and 1960s. Her early on-screen roles included appearances in films directed by notable figures such as Jean Renoir and Henri Verneuil, as well as the television adaptation of Les Misérables where she played Cosette.
Beginning in the 1970s, Margollé transitioned primarily to dubbing, bringing French voices to numerous international films and television series. Her most prominent anime voice role was as Candy Neige André in the long-running series Candy Candy, which aired from 1976 to 1978, where she was the first actress to provide the character's French voice. Beyond this signature anime role, her extensive dubbing work for animation included characters in series such as Goldorak, where she voiced Capella, Capitaine Caverne as Lilli, Clue Club as Pierrette, and Mightor as Sheera. She also contributed to French versions of animated productions like Le Fantôme de l'espace and Shazzan.
In addition to her animation work, Margollé was a prolific dubbing artist for live-action films and television. She became known as the regular French voice for several prominent American actresses, including dubbing Sissy Spacek in Carrie, Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween, Sally Field in Norma Rae, and Cheryl Ladd in the television series Charlie's Angels (known as Drôles de dames in France). She also provided the French voice for Melissa Sue Anderson as Mary Ingalls on the series Little House on the Prairie (La Petite Maison dans la prairie). Her career in dubbing reflected a notable pattern of voicing leading young female characters in both animated and live-action productions throughout the 1970s.
Sylviane Margollé later moved to the United States, where she married. She passed away on July 12, 2005, in Long Island, New York, at the age of 54 due to complications following surgery.
