Makoto Nonomura is a Japanese performer and voice actor, born on June 24, 1964, in Tokyo, Japan. His career in entertainment began in the mid-1980s, and he is recognized for work spanning both live-action film and animated projects.
While Nonomura has maintained a steady career as an on-screen actor, he is best known to anime audiences for a single, significant voice role. In 1994, he provided the voice of Shoukichi in the Studio Ghibli film Pom Poko (also known as Heisei Tanuki Gassen Ponpoko), directed by Isao Takahata. This role represents his most prominent animated credit and is the primary title cited in his filmography. Over a decade later, he reprised the role of Shoukichi for the 2006 film The Night of Taneyamagahara.
Outside of his limited voice acting work, Nonomura has been a prolific actor in Japanese cinema and television.
