Shikou Kanai
Description
Shikou Kanai is a Japanese actor and voice actor born on October 25, 1991. He began his entertainment career as a child actor, making his debut in 2005 with a role in the production Yumeno. Over the following years, he built a portfolio of live-action television and film roles, appearing in dramas such as Bad Dad in 2007, Justice of the Enemy in 2008, and the popular series Samurai Sentai Shinkenger in 2009, where he played the character志叶薫.
Kanai is best known for his work in the anime industry, specifically for his voice role in the long-running series Kirarin Revolution. He joined the show during its third season, titled Kirarin Revolution Stage 3, which aired from April 2008 to March 2009. In this season, he took over the role of Seiji Hiwatari, a prominent character and a member of the popular in-universe idol group Ships. The original voice actor for the role had been Soichiro Hoshi for the first two seasons. Kanai's casting coincided with a broader change for the show, as he and voice actor Takuya Ide, who played the character Hiroto Kazama, were both selected to form the real-life singing group Ships to promote the anime.
As a member of Ships, Kanai contributed to the musical side of the Kirarin Revolution franchise. He and Takuya Ide performed as their characters, releasing character singles. Their most notable release is the ballad Kimi ga Iru, which was used as an insert song for the anime and released as a single on November 26, 2008 under the Zetima label. The music video for the song featured Kanai and Ide performing in character, and the single achieved a peak position of number 140 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart.
Beyond his voice work in the television series, Kanai continued to voice the character Seiji Hiwatari in related film projects. His film credits include the 2008 live-action movie And the Pig Was Taken to School, where he had an acting role, and the 2012 psychological thriller Lesson of the Evil, in which he played a character named小野寺枫子. He also reprised his role as志叶薫 from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger for the 2011 film Tensou Sentai Goseiger.
