Tania Torrens was a French actress and voice actress born on April 21, 1945, who passed away on December 12, 2024. She trained at the Conservatoire de Paris and joined the Comédie-Française in 1967, later becoming a full sociétaire of the prestigious state theatre troupe from 1976 to 1988. During her stage career, she performed extensively in the classic French and international repertory, including works by Marivaux, Beaumarchais, Chekhov, and Dostoevsky.

In the world of animation and anime dubbing, Torrens is best known for providing the French voice of Major Motoko Kusanagi in the landmark 1995 cyberpunk film Ghost in the Shell. Her other significant voice roles in animation included Galadriel in the 1978 animated film The Lord of the Rings, Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Queen Lillian in the Shrek franchise, including Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, and Shrek Forever After. She also voiced characters in animated series such as Papyrus, Les Chevaliers de Tir Na Nog, and Molierissimo.

Beyond her animation work, Torrens had a prolific career dubbing live-action performances. She was the regular French voice for actress Sigourney Weaver for nearly forty years, beginning with Alien in 1979 and continuing through the Alien sequels and many other films. She also provided French dubbing for actresses including Judi Dench, Candice Bergen, Lena Olin, Faye Dunaway, and Julianne Moore, and voiced characters in television series such as Friends, Alias, and Star Trek: Voyager. In addition to her voice work, Torrens appeared in live-action films including François Truffaut's L'Argent de poche (1976), Jean-Jacques Annaud's L'Amant (1992), and Bertrand Tavernier's Laissez-passer (2002).
