Danny Mandia, also known as Danny L. Mandia, is a Filipino voice actor, dubbing director, and translator who was active from the early 1990s until his passing in 2024. While primarily recognized for his extensive work behind the microphone as a director, he contributed his voice to numerous Filipino-language dubs of popular anime and television series. He is widely regarded as the Father of Modern Filipino Dubbing for his pioneering role in shaping the industry.
Mandia began his career in the arts on the stage, earning a masters degree in Theater Arts from the University of the Philippines and working as an actor and stage manager from the late 1970s. He entered the dubbing industry in 1991, initially as a translator for the live-action series Ultraman for the network ABS-CBN, where he later became an in-house dubbing director. He also worked as a director for the anime-focused channel Hero TV. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he returned to direct dubs for CreatiVoices Productions.
As a voice actor, Mandia is known for playing the role of Smee, Captain Hooks bumbling sidekick, in the Tagalog-language dub of Peter Pan: The Animated Series. His other voice acting credits include roles in the dubs of Paprika, Gintama, Vandread, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, Zenki, Boys Over Flowers, Ceres Celestial Legend, and Futari wa Pretty Cure.
Mandia is best known for directing the Tagalog adaptations of a vast array of anime and live-action series. His directing credits include Magic Knight Rayearth, Digimon Adventure, Voltes V, Meteor Garden, Kim Possible, Zenki, Bt X, The Familiar of Zero, Log Horizon, Ragnarok The Animation, Heidi Girl of the Alps, A Dog of Flanders, Remi Nobodys Girl, Anne of Green Gables, and Akazukin Chacha. Beyond directing and voice acting, he penned Filipino lyrics for the theme songs of several series, including Magic Knight Rayearth and Remi.
Throughout his career, Mandia was a mentor to many aspiring voice talents. He co-founded the Philippine Center for Voice Acting, also known as the VoiceWorx Workshop, and the Certified Voice Artist Program to train future generations of voice artists.
