Eric Johnson

Description
Eric Johnson is the birth name of the American voice actor professionally known as Eric Vale, having adopted the stage name when he joined an actors' union that already had a member named Eric Johnson. He is best known for his extensive work in English-language dubs of Japanese anime series, primarily those produced by Funimation.

Johnson began his voice acting career in 1999 with the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z, initially in smaller roles before landing his breakout part as Future Trunks, the sword-wielding Saiyan from a dystopian future. He has since become the consistent English voice for the character across the franchise, including Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and numerous feature films and video games such as Dragon Ball FighterZ, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. He also voices the World Tournament Announcer throughout the Dragon Ball series.

Beyond Dragon Ball, his major anime roles include the gentle Yuki Sohma in both the 2001 and 2019 versions of Fruits Basket, the suave and chivalrous chef Sanji in One Piece, the calculating and charismatic alchemist Solf J. Kimblee in Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and the villainous Tomura Shigaraki in My Hero Academia. He provides the voices for both America and Canada in Hetalia: Axis Powers, Loke in Fairy Tail, Casshern in Casshern Sins, and Arthur Boyle in Fire Force. Additional prominent roles include Arystar Krory in D-Gray-man, Ferid Bathory in Seraph of the End, Phoenix Wright in the Ace Attorney anime adaptation, Kazuma in Noragami, and Nishiki Nishio in Tokyo Ghoul.

In addition to voice acting, Johnson has an extensive behind-the-scenes career as an ADR director and scriptwriter. He served as head writer and script adapter for numerous series, including Baccano!, Black Cat, Desert Punk, Initial D, and Gunslinger Girl, and has held ADR director roles on shows such as Beet the Vandel Buster and the 2018 dub of B't X. He has also contributed as a writer for several Dragon Ball Z video games.

In the video game field, he reprises many of his anime roles, including Future Trunks, Sanji, and Tomura Shigaraki. He has also appeared in non-anime game titles such as Borderlands 2, where he voiced the character Boom and others.

Throughout his career, Johnson has maintained long-running collaborations with Funimation and its recording studio, OkraTron 5000, where he has worked as a producer, writer, and director. His notable achievements include providing the definitive English voice for Future Trunks across over two decades of Dragon Ball media and voicing lead characters in several of the most popular and long-running anime franchises in North America.
