Rhys Huber
Description
Rhys Huber is a Canadian former voice actor known for his English-language work in anime and Western animation during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, he began his voice acting career at a young age and remained active from 1993 until his retirement in 2004.
Huber is best known as the voice of Li Showron, the English dub name for Syaoran Li, in the Nelvana-produced English adaptation of Cardcaptor Sakura, known internationally as Cardcaptors. He voiced the character during the first arc of the series, often referred to as the Clow Card arc, as well as in the first animated film. Other actors, such as Jordan Kilik, later took over the role for subsequent story arcs.
Beyond his signature role in Cardcaptors, Huber appeared in a variety of other animated productions. In the anime category, he voiced a one-episode character, Satori, in the English dub of the long-running series Ranma ½. His work in Western animation was more extensive. He voiced the title character in Rainbow Fish, based on the popular children's book. He also played Salty in Salty's Lighthouse, Gus in Nilus the Sandman, and Shayne Jones in Spider-Man Unlimited. Later credits include Pyrahh's Brother in one episode of Dragon Booster and a recurring role as Russell Van Eden on the series What About Mimi? for its first two seasons.
Over the course of his career, Huber frequently worked with a consistent circle of voice actors based in Vancouver. He collaborated multiple times with performers such as Brian Drummond, Scott Swanson, Jerry Wasserman, and Eric Newsome. His retirement from voice acting in 2004 marked the end of a relatively short but memorable career in the industry, with his work in the English dub of Cardcaptors remaining his most enduring contribution.
