Kinuko Ōmori
Description
Kinuko Ōmori is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on May 27, 1967, in the Aoyama district of Tokyo, Japan. She is best known for her leading role as Priscilla S. "Priss" Asagiri in the 1987 original video animation series Bubblegum Crisis. At nineteen years old, she auditioned for and was selected to voice the character of Priss, a member of the Knight Sabers who also works as a rock singer. Her performance in the series extended beyond voice acting, as she sang many of the show's songs, including the iconic opening theme Konya wa Hurricane.
Her time on Bubblegum Crisis was notably affected by a singing contract she signed with CBS Sony Records in 1988. Due to contractual obligations with the record company, she was unable to perform solo vocal numbers for the series after the third episode, leading to her vocal parts being performed by other singers. Legal complications between the record company and the anime's producers became so significant that there were plans to write the character of Priss out of the series, though the character was ultimately retained due to her popularity. The series concluded after eight episodes, and Ōmori did not reprise her role for the 1991 sequel Bubblegum Crash!.
Following her work on Bubblegum Crisis, Ōmori focused on her music career. She formed a band called SILK in 1991, a name derived from the kanji character in her given name which translates to silk. The band released several mini-albums. A song from their debut self-titled album, Chase the Dream, was used as the ending theme for the final episode of Bubblegum Crisis, while their single featured the opening song for the children's anime series Zettai Muteki Raijin-Oh. She also performed songs for the Gun Smith Cats image album in 1993. In addition to her voice role in Bubblegum Crisis, she voiced the character Sohko Nakano in the 1995 video game Makaroni Hōren-sō Interactive. She released her only solo album, titled Sweet Dreams, in July 1988.
