Akihiro Itō

Description
Akihiro Itō is a Japanese manga artist recognized as the original creator of the Geobreeders series, which was adapted into the anime Geobreeders and its sequel Geobreeders: Breakthrough. Born in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Itō began his career in the manga industry under the pen name BREN303, a reference to the Bren light machine gun. His earliest published works appeared in ecchi magazines such as Lemon People, and several of these short stories were later compiled into collections including Take the B Studio.

Itō is best known for creating and illustrating the manga Geobreeders, which was serialized in Shōnen Gahōsha's seinen manga magazine Young King Ours from 1993 to 2009. The story follows an all-female security firm, Kagura Total Security, as they combat phantom cats causing chaos in Ayagane City. The manga was collected into sixteen tankōbon volumes and was partially translated into English by CPM Manga. The series was adapted into two original video animation productions. The first OVA, subtitled Get Back the Kitty, was released in 1998. This was followed by a second OVA, Geobreeders: Breakthrough, also known as Geobreeders: File-XX: Breakthrough, released across four episodes from July 2000 to March 2001.

Beyond Geobreeders, Itō worked on a second manga series titled Wilderness, which was serialized in Sunday GX. Both Geobreeders and Wilderness entered indefinite hiatus around 2009, reportedly because Itō stopped working due to an undisclosed illness. Additional works by Itō include the short story collections Gallop and Blue Gale, a three-volume series titled Belle Starr loosely based on the life of the American outlaw, a one-volume work titled Lawman, and Battle Girl.

In an interview regarding the Geobreeders Atomic Attack spin-off manga, Itō provided insight into his artistic identity. He stated that he draws the Honda Vamos because it is easily recognizable, while noting he cannot draw vehicles with curved lines. He also mentioned that he is not particularly a gun or military enthusiast but simply enjoys pictures of gunfights, and that he draws cars in great detail because some of his fans demand it.
