Kyosuke Usuta is a Japanese manga artist born on May 25, 1974, in Aichi Prefecture. He was raised in Kōshi, Kumamoto. He is best known for creating two long-running gag manga series for Weekly Shōnen Jump, one of the most prominent manga magazines in Japan.

Usuta made his debut in Weekly Shōnen Jump with Sexy Commando Gaiden: Sugoi yo!! Masaru-san, which was serialized from 1995 to 1997. This manga was later adapted into a 48-episode anime television series produced by Magic Bus that aired on TBS in 1998. The story follows a high school club dedicated to a bizarre martial art that focuses on distracting opponents rather than using physical force. The manga was collected in seven volumes and has been noted for its clever satire and wit, with over seven million copies sold.

Following the conclusion of that series, Usuta began his most famous work, Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from August 2000 to August 2010. The manga was collected in 20 volumes and tells the story of a hapless aspiring guitarist whose life is disrupted by an eccentric man obsessed with playing the recorder. This series was adapted into multiple original video animations and a live-action film in 2008. The anime film Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar ~Ima, Fuki ni Yukimasu, released in January 2009, is a direct adaptation of his original manga. The film was directed by Frogman, with Usuta credited as the original creator.

Usuta's other works include the two-volume series Bushizawa Receive from 1999 and the short story collection Chikusaku Call from 2001. In 2015, he began serializing Foodfighter Tabelu, which was published by Shueisha.

His artistic identity is firmly rooted in gag humor. Both of his major Jump series are unconventional comedies that avoid typical shonen action tropes. A recurring theme in his work appears to be the juxtaposition of mundane settings with absurd premises, such as a martial art based on distraction or a music story centered on an unglamorous instrument like the recorder. His writing has been described as consistently avoiding obvious gags, instead challenging readers with clever satire and wit.

Usuta holds a significant place in the manga industry as a creator who maintained a long-running series in the highly competitive Weekly Shōnen Jump. Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar was serialized for a full decade, demonstrating a stable and dedicated readership. While not as globally recognized as some of his peers, his work has a strong cult following and has been critically praised for its unique comedic voice.
