Georges Berthomieu was a French actor born on January 5, 1933 in Paris, France. He died on January 18, 2005 in Montpeyroux, France at the age of 72.
Berthomieu was active in the field of dubbing for French-language releases, contributing his voice to numerous animated films and television series. Within animation, he is recognized for playing Mr. Fontange in the anime series Laura ou la Passion du théâtre, which is the French title for the 1984 series Glass Mask. Among his other notable roles in anime and animated productions, he voiced the King in the French dubs of the Toei animated films Le Chat botté and Le Chat botté 2, as well as M. Grumont in Le Chat botté 3. He also provided voices for several characters in the French version of the 1980s science fantasy series Jayce et les Conquérants de la Lumière, including the Captain, General Zest, Dr. Horbus, the chief of the soldiers, King Mallaury, and Vincsland.
Berthomieu had a recurring association with Disney dubbing projects. He voiced the clock pendulum Big Ben in the French versions of La Belle et la Bête (Beauty and the Beast), its sequel La Belle et la Bête 2: Le Noël enchanté, and the film Le Monde magique de la Belle et la Bête. His other Disney dub credits include providing the voice of Winston the bulldog in Oliver et Compagnie (Oliver & Company), Astro in Les Jetson: Le Film (The Jetsons Movie), the zoo police officer and reception man in the second dub of La Belle et le Clochard (Lady and the Tramp), and the Ghost of Christmas Present and Willie the Giant in Le Noël de Mickey (Mickey's Christmas Carol).
Beyond Disney, his extensive voice work includes the role of Grandpa in several films of the Le Petit Dinosaure (The Land Before Time) direct-to-video sequel series. He was also the French voice of Séraphin Lampion in the 1991 animated series Les Aventures de Tintin, Jack (known as Jack le Costaud) in Tic et Tac, les rangers du risque (Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers), and Grospouf in Blondine au pays de l'arc-en-ciel (Rainbow Brite). Other series in which he participated include Graine de champion (Ashita e Free Kick) as Thierry's grandfather, Les Minipouss (The Littles), and Rahan. Live-action dubbing was also a part of his career, and he was notably one of the regular French voices for actors James Garner and Pete Postlethwaite.
