Satoru Kumazaki

Description
Satoru Kumazaki, whose name in kanji is 隈崎悟, is a Japanese anime director, scriptwriter, and original creator known primarily for his work in the 1980s, particularly within the original video animation (OVA) market. His career is notably associated with the early years of the OVA format, a medium that allowed for more direct-to-consumer adult and experimental content.

One of his key credits is the 1984 erotic OVA series Aoi Taiken, also known as Blue Experience. This two-episode project highlights his dual role as both an adapter of existing work and an originator of new material. While the first episode is based on a manga by the artist Hachurui, Kumazaki served as the director and scriptwriter. For the second episode, he is credited as the original creator, in addition to handling direction and script duties, demonstrating his capability to develop an anime from an original concept.

Beyond Aoi Taiken, Kumazaki's filmography includes other credits from the mid-1980s, often serving in multiple creative capacities. He was the chief director and writer for Datenshi-tachi no Kyōen, an OVA from 1985. He also directed an episode of the fantasy OVA series Dream Hunter Rem in 1985 and served as the chief director for a special version of the same title. His work extended to mainstream television anime as well; he is credited with storyboard work on episodes of the mecha series Dancougar - Super Beast Machine God.

Kumazaki’s contributions are significant in the context of the 1980s anime industry, a period marked by the rise of the OVA which provided creators with opportunities to produce content outside the constraints of television broadcasting. His work on Aoi Taiken places him among the creators involved in one of the first erotic OVAs, a formative genre in the direct-to-video market. His filmography indicates a career focused on direction, scripting, and original creation, with a concentration on adult-oriented OVAs and episodic direction for television series. Available records also note that he uses the director alias Seiji Okuda.
