Makoto Ojiro is a Japanese manga artist from Saitama Prefecture. She was born on October 3, 1982. She began her career in the manga industry as an assistant to the artist Masashi Asaki when she was 19 years old. She made her professional debut as a creator four years later in 2006, with her work appearing in Weekly Young Magazine.

Ojiro is the author of several notable manga series. Her debut serialization was Katekin, which ran from 2006 to 2008. She subsequently created the series Nude: AV Joyū Mihiro Tanjō Monogatari from 2009 to 2010, Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki from 2012 to 2016, and Neko no Otera no Chion-san from 2016 to 2018. Her most widely recognized work is Insomniacs After School, which was serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits from May 2019 to August 2023 and compiled into 14 volumes. In 2024, she launched a new series titled Hoshino-kun, Shitagatte!, as well as Shisutarejisuta, a collaboration with anime screenwriter Mari Okada.

The artistic identity of Makoto Ojiro is characterized by a distinct shift in thematic focus over time. Her early works, such as Katekin, contained elements of erotic comedy and were aimed at a young male audience. As her career progressed, she moved away from explicit content to focus more on the subtleties of adolescent relationships, puberty, and romantic ambiguity. Her later series, including Neko no Otera no Chion-san and Insomniacs After School, are known for their slice-of-life storytelling, realistic character depictions, and a concise artistic style that makes effective use of blank space. Her stories often explore the connections that form between teenagers dealing with personal challenges, such as the protagonists in Insomniacs After School who bond over their shared struggle with insomnia.

Insomniacs After School represents Ojiro's most significant crossover success into other media. The manga was adapted into a 13-episode anime television series produced by Liden Films, which aired from April to July 2023. A live-action film adaptation was also released in Japanese theaters in June 2023. In addition to these adaptations, a music video for the band Macaroni Enpitsu featured artwork from the manga.

Makoto Ojiro has received recognition within the manga industry for her work. She won the 2016 Bros Comic Awards for Neko no Otera no Chion-san. Her work has also demonstrated a tangible connection to real-world communities; the town of Nanao, which serves as the setting for Insomniacs After School, was hit by the 2024 Noto earthquake. In response, Ojiro organized a charity event and, with her publisher Shogakukan, arranged for proceeds from sales of the manga to be donated to the city's relief fund for one year.
