Saekisan

Description
Saekisan is a Japanese author best known as the creator of the popular light novel, manga, and anime series The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. The writer is a native of Japan and has been professionally recognized within the light novel industry, having won the fourth Ichijinsha Bunko Iris Love Fantasy Grand Prize for their work Danna-sama wa Majutsu Baka (The Master is a Magic Fool). This award helped establish Saekisan as a notable voice in the romance and fantasy light novel space.

Saekisan is the original creator of The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, a story that began as a web novel serialized online on the user-generated content site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in December 2018. The series was later acquired by publisher SB Creative, who began releasing it as a light novel under their GA Bunko imprint in June 2019. As of early 2026, the light novel series has expanded to eleven main volumes along with two short story collections. The English version of the light novel is published in North America by Yen Press.

The series has seen multiple media adaptations under Saekisan's original authorship. A manga adaptation illustrated by Wan Shibata, with composition by Suzu Yūki, began serialization in Square Enix's online magazine Manga Up! in January 2022. A second manga series, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten: After the Rain, illustrated by Puyo, launched in December 2023. An anime television series adaptation produced by Studio Project No.9 aired from January to March 2023, with a second season announced and in development. Saekisan is credited as the original story author across all these adaptations.

The creator's artistic identity centers on slow-burn romantic development between two isolated individuals. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten focuses on Amane Fujimiya, a high school boy living alone, and his neighbor Mahiru Shiina, the school's idolized angel. The story traces their gradual connection from small acts of kindness to a deepening relationship, emphasizing domestic intimacy and emotional healing over dramatic conflict. This approach, focusing on quiet, character-driven romance, has become a signature of Saekisan's work.

Saekisan holds a notable position in the contemporary light novel and anime industry as an example of a creator who successfully transitioned from web novel self-publishing to professional publication and multimedia franchising. The path from Shōsetsuka ni Narō to a full anime adaptation represents a well-established route in Japanese publishing, and Saekisan's success with The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten has contributed to the continued popularity of tender, low-conflict romance narratives in the light novel market.
