Description
In the year 2100, a boy named Takara lives in a future world drastically altered by the consequences of climate change. His life changes when he meets Sara, a curious girl from the present day who has been unexpectedly time-warped into this dystopian future. Together, they embark on a journey to understand the environmental crisis that led to the state of their world. With the help of the brilliant scientist Dr. Emori, who has taken the form of a flying squirrel, they use a special airplane called Lanpho to travel and learn about the planet.
The story is an educational adventure that follows Takara and Sara as they explore the causes and effects of global warming. Their travels are often joined by Sara's energetic cousin, Shugar. The narrative is structured as a series of lessons, with each episode focusing on a different environmental topic. They witness the sources of carbon dioxide emissions, learn about the increasing frequency of extreme weather events like torrential rains and heatwaves, and see the impact on the global food supply and wildlife, including the threat of mass extinction.
As the series progresses, the duo investigates practical solutions to these ecological challenges. They explore the potential of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal power, and learn the importance of reforestation and the role of forests in absorbing CO2. A significant arc of the story also addresses the concept of a circular economy and the problem of marine plastic pollution. The children confront the unfair reality of climate justice, seeing how people on small island nations become climate refugees due to sea-level rise despite having contributed the least to carbon emissions.
The series concludes by emphasizing that while there is no single magical solution to erase carbon emissions, the future can be changed through innovation, invention, and a collective shift in mindset. The characters learn that everyone has a role to play and that believing in the possibility of a better future is the most important step toward creating one.
