Description
Behind every crumbling dungeon floor, every suspiciously placed rope, and every vat of sticky green slime that dissolves an adventurer's armor, there is a demon who spent countless hours on research and development. Ma no Mono-tachi wa Kuwadateru is a fantasy workplace comedy that pulls back the curtain on these unsung laborers, shifting the focus from epic heroics to the mundane struggles of designing the perfect trap. The story centers on the demonic employees of a demon lord’s castle, specifically a department dedicated to creating obstacles for invading heroes. The protagonist, Lord Pity Trap, is a demon whose magical power is directly fueled by human embarrassment. Consequently, his work is not just about stopping adventurers but about doing so in the most humiliating way possible, leading to the deployment of absurd contraptions like clothing-melting slime and tentacle traps. The comedy arises from the juxtaposition of evil world-ending aesthetics with relatable office politics, such as arguing over budget constraints for prototype traps, dealing with difficult middle management, and the sheer exhaustion of a job that involves constant failure and iteration. The narrative arcs follow the team as they brainstorm, build, and test their increasingly ridiculous inventions, often with disastrous and hilarious results for the test subjects. Lighthearted and leaning into ecchi humor for comedic effect rather than pure fanservice, the series explores the daily grind of villainy from the perspective of the minions doing all the actual work. The anime, produced by studio TNK and directed by Takuya Asaoka, adapts the original manga by Takuji Katō and Gashigashi, bringing this behind-the-scenes look at dungeon maintenance to television audiences.
