Description
In this comedic reinterpretation of Osamu Tezuka's classic medical drama, the brilliant unlicensed surgeon known as Black Jack is reimagined not as a cool and mysterious genius, but as a deeply flawed and disappointing character. The setting shifts from a serious examination of medical ethics to a rapid-fire sketch comedy format, where Black Jack constantly undercuts his own impressive moments. He will act in a cool and collected manner only to immediately trip up or ruin a potentially touching scene with an unexpected and inappropriate action. His young assistant, Pinoko, serves as the sharp-tongued straight man, delivering precise and witty retorts in the Kansai dialect to keep the egotistical doctor in check. Each week, a new patient arrives at Black Jack's isolated clinic with a unique ailment, leading to absurd situations as the doctor's questionable behavior clashes with his undeniable surgical skill. The series is directed, written, and performed by a single creator, Sorotani, who provides the voice for every character in this fast-paced, short-form web anime. Over the course of twelve short episodes, the narrative follows this chaotic dynamic as the duo encounters a variety of troubled patients, turning the original manga's life-or-death drama into a lighthearted comedy about a faux-cool doctor and his long-suffering assistant.
