Description
A young princess named Athanasia de Alger Obelia lives in the lavish but treacherous Obelian Empire, haunted by a terrifying secret: prophetic dreams that reveal she is fated to be executed by her own father, the cold and powerful Emperor Claude. Armed with the knowledge of this dark future, Athanasia resolves to use every tool at her disposal to survive, primarily her immense cuteness and growing cunning. Her original plan to simply avoid the emperor fails when an unexpected encounter brings her to his attention much earlier than foreseen, forcing her to adopt a bolder and riskier strategy to charm the very man who is destined to kill her.

The story is set within the hierarchical and magic-infused Obelian Empire, a kingdom still haunted by the memory of Emperor Claude’s beloved late wife, Queen Diana, who died giving birth to Athanasia. Believed to have no magical abilities, the princess is raised in near isolation by her mother’s devoted friend, Lilian York, until her path collides with her father’s. The emotionally stunted and stern Claude is initially indifferent, but he becomes intrigued by his daughter’s resemblance to Diana and her unexpectedly bold behavior, such as calling him Papa. As Athanasia navigates this dangerous relationship, she is supported by the loyal knight Felix Robane and later encounters other key figures from her dreams, including the powerful and enigmatic magician Lucas, the kind-hearted noble’s son Ijekiel Alpheus, and her apparent cousin, Jennette Margarita, who is the beloved heroine of the in-universe novel The Lovely Princess upon which Athanasia’s fate is seemingly based.

As the series progresses, several major narrative arcs unfold. The initial arc focuses on Athanasia’s childhood efforts to secure Claude’s affection and protection by collecting jewels and navigating palace life, inadvertently deepening her complex bond with her dangerous father. A subsequent arc sees her attending a debutante ball, where she must balance the expectations of high society with the threat of the empire’s political conspiracies and the growing mystery of Jennette’s true parentage. The adaptation notably streamlines the source material’s plot, shifting the focus from a modern woman reincarnated into a novel to a native princess who simply receives prophetic dreams, which changes the dynamic of her struggle from that of an outsider to someone truly fighting against her own world’s cruel narrative. This choice places greater emphasis on the psychological tension of Athanasia trying to change a future that is intrinsically tied to her father’s fragile mental state, as the emperor’s memories of her and her mother are revealed to be magically unstable and under threat from a shadowy figure from his past.
