A young girl named Momo is the princess of Fenarinarsa, the Land of Dreams in the Sky, a magical kingdom sustained by humanitys belief in dreams and hopes. When people on Earth begin to lose their wonder, Fenarinarsa faces disappearance. Momo is sent to Earth to restore that faith. Accompanied by her three animal companions—the dog Sindbook, the monkey Mokka, and the bird Pipil—she is adopted by a young, childless couple and takes on the appearance of a teenage girl. Using a magic wand, she transforms into an adult version of herself suited to various professions, from a police officer to a veterinarian, helping others and collecting magical jewels needed to save her kingdom.

The 1987 special, Hitomi no Seiza Minky Momo Song Special, does not advance this overarching story. Instead, it serves as a music video collection that compiles the full versions of nine songs from the original television series soundtrack.
