Description
Announced in early 2026 for a planned release in 2027, Scooby-Doo! Gokko is a short-form anime series that reimagines the classic Mystery Inc. characters with a super-deformed chibi art style. The project follows the success of a similar anime adaptation of Tom and Jerry and represents Warner Bros.s continued exploration of Japanese animation aesthetics for its iconic Western properties.

The series adopts the Gokko format, a Japanese term referring to childrens pretend play, which signals a shift toward lighter, more whimsical content. Unlike traditional Scooby-Doo mysteries that blend comedy with mild horror elements, this iteration focuses on adorable character designs featuring oversized heads, small bodies, and exaggerated expressions. The animation style emphasizes kawaii aesthetics and broad physical comedy, making the series particularly accessible to younger viewers and fans of cute anime genres. The core cast including Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma all appear in this redesigned format.

Scooby-Doo! Gokko exists alongside another previously announced anime project titled Go-Go Mystery Machine, which was unveiled at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2024. That separate series features a more traditional anime aesthetic and follows a different premise where Shaggy and Scooby travel to Japan on a food-themed adventure. While visiting Japan, they accidentally unleash hundreds of mischievous yokai mythical monsters that proceed to cause chaos across the country. The duo receives help from new characters including Scoobys Japanese uncle Daisuke-Doo, a magical girl named Etsuko, and a gadget specialist named Toshiro as they work to recapture the supernatural creatures.

As of early 2026, Warner Bros. has not clarified whether Scooby-Doo! Gokko will replace Go-Go Mystery Machine or if both projects will be released separately. The Gokko version appears designed as a short-form series suitable for streaming platforms and social media distribution, while the previously announced project suggests a more conventional episodic structure. Both projects reflect the studios broader strategy of anime-ifying its classic animated franchises to reach international audiences, particularly in Asian markets where anime culture dominates.
