Description
Kim Dokja is an ordinary office worker in his twenties whose life has been defined by a single, consuming hobby. For over a decade, he has been the sole reader of a forgotten web novel titled Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse, a sprawling, 3,149-chapter fantasy epic that he followed from adolescence into adulthood. On the day the decade-long serialization finally concludes, Kim Dokja finds himself alone on a subway train, mourning the end of the story that was his only escape. Displeased with the original ending where the hero survives alone, he writes an angry message to the author, calling it the worst conclusion. Moments later, reality warps. A strange, doll-like creature called a dokkaebi appears, and the world outside the train windows transforms into a hellish landscape of monsters and destruction. The fiction he knows better than his own life has become reality.

This new world is governed by the Star Stream, a celestial entertainment channel where all-powerful beings known as Constellations—ancient gods, mythological heroes, and historical figures from every culture—watch and sponsor human survivors, called Incarnations, as they struggle through deadly scenarios broadcast for the Constellations amusement. The dokkaebi are the manipulative moderators who design and execute these scenarios, forcing humanity to fight, kill, and scheme simply to see the next sunrise. As panic erupts in his subway car and the first brutal scenario begins, Kim Dokja realizes he possesses an impossible advantage. He is the only person on the planet who has read the entire story of this apocalypse. He knows every twist, every hidden item location, every optimal choice, and the secret weaknesses of every monster and enemy. Where others see random chaos, he sees a script he has already memorized.

Using this knowledge, the unassuming reader begins to navigate the scenarios not with brute strength, but with clever manipulation and foresight. He survives the first scenario by exploiting a loophole in the rules, killing an insect instead of a human to fulfill the requirement. His actions quickly draw the attention of the Constellations, who are baffled by this strange Incarnation who refuses to take a sponsor and seems to know the future. Soon, he encounters the original protagonist of the novel, Yoo Joonghyuk, played by Lee Min Ho. Yoo Joonghyuk is a powerful, battle-hardened regressor who has already lived through this apocalypse countless times, each life ending in failure and forcing him to restart his journey. Where Kim Dokja is a strategist who knows the plot, Yoo Joonghyuk is a warrior of immense physical power, cynical and brooding from the weight of his repeated failures. Their relationship is immediately tense and complex, as Kim Dokja knows things he should not know about the protagonist, including his past failures and deepest secrets.

As the scenarios escalate, from fighting off monstrous creatures to surviving elaborate games of betrayal and politics, Kim Dokja begins to assemble a group of companions just as they appear in the novel. This team includes Yoo Sangah, a kind but determined colleague from his office; Lee Hyunsung, a gentle giant and army lieutenant; Jung Heewon, a fierce and morally-driven fighter; Lee Jihye, a high school fencer; and Lee Gilyoung, a young boy with a strange affinity for insects. Each character brings a unique skill and personal trauma to the group, and Kim Dokja, knowing their fates from the novel, works tirelessly to steer them away from their original tragic ends. He is not a typical hero; he is often physically outmatched, relying on his wits, his knowledge of the story, and the unique skills he gains as an Omniscient Reader to keep his party alive. His goal is not just to survive the 99 main scenarios required to end the apocalypse, but to actively defy the original narrative and rewrite the ending, saving everyone rather than leaving Yoo Joonghyuk to face the final moment alone. The story follows Kim Dokja as he attempts to turn a grim prophecy of survival into a shared journey of hope, all while the god-like Constellations watch from above, waiting to see if this one, ordinary reader can truly change the fate of the world.
