Description
Nearly half the residents of Sakurada, a seemingly quiet coastal town, possess unique supernatural abilities. These powers range from the mundane to the extraordinary, but their use is strictly monitored by the local Administration Bureau. The story centers on two high school students who are members of the school's Service Club, an organization that the Bureau tasks with solving problems related to these special abilities. Kei Asai has a perfect photographic memory, able to recall every detail he has ever seen or heard. Misora Haruki possesses the far more powerful ability to reset the world back to a specific saved point, but only for a maximum of three days. The critical flaw in Haruki's power is that when she performs a reset, she loses all memory of the period that was erased. This makes her ability nearly useless on its own. However, Kei’s perfect memory is immune to her resets. Together, they form a perfect team: Haruki can rewind time to fix mistakes or undo tragedies, and Kei can remember what went wrong and guide her actions in the new timeline.

The series is set in motion by the actions of their classmate, Sumire Soma. Sumire is a precognitive who can see the future of anyone she speaks with, a power that causes her to lose her sense of self as she becomes overwhelmed by countless possible futures. Understanding her own fate, she orchestrates a meeting between Kei and Haruki before committing suicide. Her death, and the mystery surrounding it, becomes the central conflict that Kei and Haruki are determined to resolve. In the live-action films, the first part follows the duo as they use their combined abilities to navigate the Bureau’s complex rules and other ability users to eventually succeed in bringing Sumire back to life. This act of resurrection, however, has dire consequences.

The second film deals with the aftermath of Sumire’s return. As violence begins to spread uncontrollably throughout Sakurada, the Administration Bureau decides to enact a radical measure known as the Negate Plan. This plan aims to permanently erase all supernatural powers from the town, which would effectively undo Haruki’s ability to reset and potentially unravel the very fabric of their reality. Kei and Haruki find themselves at odds with the Bureau, particularly its task force leader Masamune Urachi, who possesses his own reset ability. To protect their friend and preserve the world they have fought to fix, Kei must formulate a complex plan that pushes the limits of their powers, facing off against Bureau members with abilities ranging from erasing objects to manipulating memories. The narrative explores whether it is right to erase grief and regrets by redoing the past, and what it truly means to hope for the future.
