Description
"Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2" is the second season of the anime series, continuing the story of Lelouch Lamperouge, a disgraced prince of the Holy Britannian Empire. After the events of the first season, Lelouch, who had gained the power of Geass—a supernatural ability to command others—loses his memories due to a confrontation with his childhood friend Suzaku Kururugi. Lelouch is returned to his ordinary life as a student at Ashford Academy, unaware of his past as the masked revolutionary leader Zero, who had led the Black Knights in a rebellion against Britannia.

The narrative resumes with Lelouch regaining his memories after a chance encounter with C.C., the immortal witch who granted him Geass. Reclaiming his identity as Zero, Lelouch resumes his campaign to overthrow Britannia and create a world where his younger sister, Nunnally, can live in peace. However, his plans are complicated by the emergence of new adversaries, including the enigmatic Knights of the Round, Britannia's elite warriors, and the mysterious Geass Order, which seeks to exploit Geass for its own purposes.

Lelouch's strategies become increasingly complex as he manipulates allies and enemies alike, using his Geass to outmaneuver his opponents. Suzaku, now a Knight of the Round, remains a formidable rival, torn between his loyalty to Britannia and his personal ideals. The relationship between Lelouch and Suzaku is central to the story, marked by their shared history and conflicting goals. Meanwhile, Lelouch's sister Nunnally becomes a key figure in the political landscape, further complicating his mission.

The series explores themes of power, morality, and sacrifice as Lelouch's actions grow more ruthless in pursuit of his goals. His use of Geass leads to unintended consequences, forcing him to confront the ethical implications of his choices. The narrative builds toward a climactic confrontation between Lelouch and the forces of Britannia, culminating in a dramatic resolution that reshapes the world order.

Supporting characters, including Kallen Stadtfeld, a skilled pilot and member of the Black Knights, and C.C., whose mysterious past is gradually revealed, play significant roles in the unfolding events. The series balances intense mecha battles with intricate political intrigue, creating a compelling narrative that delves into the complexities of rebellion, loyalty, and the cost of ambition. "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2" concludes with a definitive and impactful ending, solidifying its place as a notable entry in the mecha and political thriller genres.

1The Day a Demon Awakens
The episode opens one year after the failed Black Rebellion. Lelouch Lamperouge lives as a student at Ashford Academy under altered memories, unaware of his identity as Zero. He believes he has a younger brother named Rollo, with no recollection of Nunnally. Villetta Nu works as a gym teacher, chasing Lelouch as he skips class. Lelouch and Rollo travel to the Babel Tower casino, where Lelouch intends to gamble. Governor Carares broadcasts public executions of Elevens on television, displaying Zero marked as dead. At the casino, Kallen Stadtfeld, disguised as a bunny girl, spills a drink on Lelouch and attempts to slip a transmitter into his pocket. The Black King grabs Kallen, and Lelouch challenges him to a chess match. Lelouch checkmates the Black King with his white queen, but the Black King accuses him of cheating and orders his guards to seize Lelouch. The remaining members of the Order of the Black Knights raid the casino. Kallen kicks the guards and tries to pull Lelouch away, but Rollo prevents her. A Britannian military surveillance unit that has been monitoring Lelouch moves in. The soldiers open fire on the panicked crowd, killing civilians indiscriminately. C.C. emerges from a Knightmare and reaches for Lelouch. A soldier shoots her, then points his gun at Lelouch, revealing that the surveillance unit has tracked him the entire day. C.C. rises, kisses Lelouch, and restores his original memories. His Geass returns, and he commands the soldiers to kill each other. He shouts, "I am Zero," and the Black Knights kneel before him. In a separate scene, Suzaku Kururugi stands before Emperor Charles zi Britannia and the Knights of the Round, vowing that he will kill Zero himself.
2Plan For Independent Japan
Lelouch recalls his capture after the Black Rebellion. Suzaku subdued him on Kamine Island and brought him before Emperor Charles zi Britannia. The Emperor used his own Geass to rewrite Lelouch's memories, erasing his identity as Zero and his purpose. C.C. confirms she did not grant the Emperor his Geass and reports that Nunnally remains missing. Sayoko escaped with the remaining Black Knights to the Chinese Federation, unaware of Zero's true identity. Lelouch uses his Geass on a Britannian soldier to commandeer a Sutherland Knightmare and obtain the tower's access codes. From the control room, he directs the Black Knights in a counterattack against the besieging forces. Kallen corners him with a drawn gun, demanding to know if he used Geass to secure her loyalty. Lelouch insists her devotion to Zero came freely, and she reaffirms her commitment to the masked identity while distrusting Lelouch personally. Emperor Charles brings Suzaku to a hidden location called the Sword of Akasha, a weapon purportedly designed to kill God. A new Knightmare, the Vincent, a mass-production prototype based on the Lancelot, enters the battle and decimates the Black Knights with apparent teleportation. Urabe sacrifices himself in a suicidal charge against the Vincent, buying time for C.C. to plant explosives. Lelouch detonates the charges, collapsing Babel Tower onto Viceroir Calares and his command vehicle, killing them. Zero hijacks all broadcasts across Area 11, declaring his return and announcing the re-establishment of the United States of Japan from within the Chinese Federation's consulate. The Vincent lands at the consulate, and its pilot, Rolo, steps out to reveal his own Geass and his intent to kill Zero.
3Imprisoned in Campus
C.C.,disguised as Zero, delivers a broadcast from the Chinese Federation consulate while Lelouch answers a phone call from Rolo at Ashford Academy, creating an alibi that confuses the Special Division monitoring him. Villetta Nu oversees the surveillance network of 180 hidden cameras and 48 agents within the school but lacks the authority to act without confirmation that Lelouch has regained his memories. Lelouch uses a specialized contact lens provided by C.C. to suppress his Geass, preventing accidental activation. Meanwhile, Suzaku pilots the Lancelot in Europe, single-handedly breaking the Italian front lines and earning the moniker "White Death" from enemy forces. Guilford announces the execution of captured Black Knights unless Zero surrenders, forcing Lelouch to act quickly despite constant surveillance. Lelouch orchestrates a shopping trip with Shirley to the mall, using a fabricated terrorist incident to create chaos and issue false orders that redirect the Special Division's pursuit toward fabricated C.C. sightings. He returns to the empty underground headquarters beneath the school to confront Rolo, intending to use his Geass to gain control over him. Rolo activates his own Geass ability, which halts the perception of time for everyone in a localized area, allowing him to evade Lelouch's plan and turn the confrontation against him. The episode closes with Lelouch caught in Rolo's power, facing an adversary whose ability he cannot counter through conventional tactics.
4The Counterattack's Execution Platform
Lelouch vi Britannia, having regained his memories, resumes his identity as Zero and mobilizes the Black Knights to counter the Britannian forces. The Britannian Viceroy, Carozzo, announces the public execution of Kallen Stadtfeld at the Tokyo Settlement’s main square, intending to lure Zero into a trap. Lelouch infiltrates the execution site using a Geass on a prison guard to plant explosives and coordinates a diversion with a fake Zero. Suzaku Kururugi, bound by the Geass command "live" implanted by Emperor Charles, arrives at the platform to oversee the execution and confront Zero. Lelouch reveals his true face to Suzaku, removing his mask and declaring that he is the one who ordered the massacre at the Kururugi Shrine. Suzaku, unable to disobey his Geass, immediately attempts to shoot Lelouch but hesitates when Lelouch threatens to use his Geass to force Suzaku to kill the Viceroy. Simultaneously, the Black Knights under Tohdoh’s command break through the Britannian defenses and extract Kallen from the execution chamber. Lelouch escapes using a smoke screen and a pre-arranged signal, leaving Suzaku holding a photograph of their past friendship. The episode concludes with Suzaku now fully aware of Lelouch’s dual identity and the personal vendetta between them becoming the central conflict.
5Circle of Happiness
Lelouch,as Zero, erases the memories of the Black Knights who witnessed his use of Geass, securing their loyalty through a staged explanation. He then devises a two-pronged attack on the Geass Order. The Black Knights assault a Britannian military base as a diversion, while Lelouch and Rolo infiltrate the Geass Order’s hidden facility. Inside, Lelouch finds children held by the Order, each implanted with Geass. He commands them to die, forcing V.V., the Order’s leader, to emerge from hiding. V.V. reveals himself as the one who gave Rolo his Geass and boasts of his immortality. Lelouch orders the children to kill V.V., but V.V. uses his own Geass to teleport away. Lelouch then uses his Geass to erase the children’s memories of the event and releases them from the facility. Meanwhile, Kallen, held captive as a test subject, is freed during the chaos. Rolo confronts his past within the Order and reaffirms his loyalty to Lelouch. The destruction of the Geass Order’s base deals a significant blow to V.V.’s operations, but V.V.’s escape leaves a lingering threat. With the immediate threat neutralized, Lelouch returns to the Black Knights, now focused on his next move against the Britannian Empire and the unresolved mystery of his father’s plans.
6Surprise Attack
Lelouch vi Britannia, masked as Zero, coordinates a Black Knights operation to extract Kallen Stadtfeld from a Britannian transport convoy. He implants a Geass command in a Britannian officer to place a bomb inside the convoy, creating a diversion. Suzaku Kururugi launches in the Lancelot to repel the attack and engages the Black Knights directly. Lelouch maneuvers to isolate the container holding Kallen, but Suzaku intercepts and targets the capsule to prevent its recovery. Rollo Lamperouge, positioned with Lelouch, activates his Geass, freezing the perception of all nearby individuals for several seconds. The ability allows Lelouch to evade Suzaku’s assault and open the capsule. Kallen regains consciousness and demands an explanation from Lelouch regarding the events since her capture. Several Black Knights witness Rollo’s Geass, introducing suspicion about his loyalties and true nature. Suzaku reports the rescue to the Viceroy, confirming Zero’s return and the presence of an unknown Geass user among the Black Knights. Lelouch must now reconcile Kallen’s return, Rollo’s exposed power, and the heightened scrutiny from Britannian forces.
7棄てられた 仮面
Nunnally uses her inauguration ceremony as the new Governor-General of Area 11 to announce the re-establishment of the Special Administrative Region of Japan. Lelouch, watching the broadcast, sees his sister adopt the same plan that led to Euphemia’s death, and he falls into despair, believing his purpose as Zero is lost. He abandons his mask and wanders the settlement, using his Geass to cruelly force drug dealers and their customers into humiliating acts. Kallen finds Lelouch in a derelict building, where he seeks physical comfort from her, but she slaps him and demands he either return to being Zero or discard the mask for good. At Ashford Academy, Rolo grows increasingly agitated by Lelouch’s obsession with Nunnally, revealing a possessive desire to be Lelouch’s only sibling. The Student Council, unaware of his identity, attempts to lift Lelouch’s spirits by launching fireworks from the school roof. The gesture reminds Lelouch of his broader connections, and he resolves to fight not just for Nunnally but to protect the world where his friends live. Meanwhile, the Black Knights’ submarine, hidden beneath a cargo ship, is discovered and surrounded by the Britannian Navy. As the Knights face annihilation, Lelouch arrives in Zero’s costume, having recovered his will. He pilots the Shinkirō and uses its advanced shielding and a methane hydrate deposit on the ocean floor to capsize the enemy fleet. With the Black Knights saved, Zero announces on a live broadcast that the entire organization will accept Nunnally’s offer and join the Special Administrative Region of Japan. The episode closes with Rolo watching the broadcast, his expression suggesting a dangerous conflict between his mission and his feelings for his false brother.
8Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
Lelouch, wearing the Zero mask, appears before the Black Knights to reclaim command after their recent defeat. Kallen remains in Britannian custody, refusing Suzaku’s offers to cooperate in exchange for leniency. Zero infiltrates the Tokyo settlement’s government complex with Rolo and a small team, using Geass on the guards to reach Kallen’s holding cell. He secures her release, and they escape via Knightmare frame as Suzaku launches in the Lancelot to intercept. In the aerial pursuit, Lelouch exploits the battlefield layout to disable the Lancelot’s float unit, forcing Suzaku to break off the attack. Aboard the Ikaruga, Kallen confirms her loyalty to Zero, and the Black Knights formally reinstate him as their leader. Rolo privately confronts Lelouch, accusing him of valuing Kallen above their fabricated brotherhood; Lelouch deflects with a calculated reassurance, maintaining Rolo’s obedience. Charles zi Britannia, monitoring from the imperial capital, orders increased military pressure on the rebelling forces. Lelouch announces the formation of the United States of Japan, directly challenging Britannia’s sovereignty over the region and committing the Black Knights to a war of independence.
9La sposa della città proibita
The Chinese Federation grants the Black Knights an artificial island,Penglai Island, to house the one million Japanese who fled Britannia. The Black Knights receive new Knightmare frames supplied by their Indian allies. Britannia arranges a political marriage between the young Empress of the Chinese Federation, Tianzi, and the First Prince Odysseus, threatening to bring the Chinese Federation into Britannia's sphere and isolate the Black Knights. Zero infiltrates the pre-wedding celebration in the Forbidden City with Kallen and Kaguya. He challenges Prince Schneizel to a chess match, offering to remove his mask if he loses and demanding Suzaku leave the hall if he wins. The game reaches a stalemate when Nina Einstein attacks Zero, blaming him for Princess Euphemia's death. On the wedding day, Li Xingke, Tianzi's childhood friend and a Chinese military officer, storms the ceremony to halt the union, leading to a skirmish with Britannian guards. In the ensuing chaos, Zero seizes Tianzi at gunpoint, declaring that he will take the bride for himself and the Black Knights. The episode closes with a revelation that V.V. has restored the supposedly dead Jeremiah Gottwald, now augmented with Geass-canceling technology, setting him against Lelouch.
10When Shen Hu Wins Glory
Zero kidnaps Empress Tianzi from her wedding ceremony inside the Vermillion Forbidden City and escapes with her aboard the Ikaruga. Todoh engages Suzaku's Lancelot, allowing Zero to withdraw while Schneizel and Odysseus retreat to safety. Xingke attempts to pursue Zero but the High Eunuchs capture and imprison him. Zero explains his political objective to Tianzi: he intends to form the United States of Japan and the Chinese Federation into a new union of sovereign nations opposing Britannia. The High Eunuchs release Xingke and grant him a prototype Knightmare Frame, the Shen Hu, in exchange for rescuing the Empress. Xingke uses the Shen Hu's electric whips to destroy several Black Knights' Akatsuki units. Kallen sorties in the Guren and matches the Shen Hu's Heavenly Particle Shocking Cannon against her Radiant Wave Surger. The Guren runs out of power mid-combat, and Xingke captures Kallen. Diethard advises Zero to abandon Kallen as a single soldier, but Zero refuses and vows to rescue her. Xingke floods the battlefield from a nearby lake, turning the ground to mud and bogging down the Black Knights' forces. Zero orders a retreat to the Mausoleum of the 88 Emperors, a sacred burial ground with a single entrance. The High Eunuchs betray Xingke and ally with Britannia, combining their forces against the Black Knights' stronghold. Back in Area 11, Lelouch watches news reports of the battle with the student council and receives a call confirming Milly's safety. Zero prepares a trump card as the Chinese Federation and Britannian armies close in on his position.
11Power of Passion
Lelouch and the Black Knights attack a Britannian military transport ship carrying Kallen to the Capital. The Black Knights deploy their latest Knightmare frames, including the Shinkiro piloted by Lelouch. Suzaku sorties in the Lancelot Conquista to defend the ship. Lelouch directs his forces to breach the ship's hull and locate Kallen's containment pod. Suzaku engages Lelouch in close combat, preventing him from reaching the pod. During the battle, Lelouch's Geass activates permanently in his left eye. Lelouch uses his Geass on Suzaku, issuing a command to live. The Geass overrides Suzaku's previous behavior, forcing him to prioritize survival above all else. Suzaku's fighting style becomes erratic as he avoids lethal risks. The damage from the battle causes the ship's reactor to explode. Lelouch retrieves Kallen's pod, gives her his helmet due to a breach in the pod's oxygen supply, and activates the Shinkiro's absolute defense field. Lelouch and Kallen escape the sinking ship as Suzaku is recovered by Britannian forces. The episode closes with Lelouch now carrying the burden of his permanent Geass and its unforeseen effects on Suzaku.
12Love Attack
Lelouch Lamperouge returns to Ashford Academy after the Black Knights' operations in the Chinese Federation. He opens his shoe locker and finds a love letter inside. He immediately suspects the letter is a trap set by the Britannian Secret Service to expose his secret identity as Zero. He orders Rolo to use his Geass to identify and locate the sender. Rolo's Geass freezes the perception of time for everyone in a small radius, which cannot track down an unknown person. Lelouch then uses his own Geass on a male student, forcing him to reveal the letter's author and guide Lelouch to her. The student leads Lelouch to a timid girl named Miya. Miya confesses that she wrote the letter because she has a crush on Lelouch. Lelouch verifies that no hidden conspiracy or danger exists behind the letter. The student council, led by Milly Ashford, continues organizing the school's upcoming festival. Rolo maintains his false identity as Lelouch's younger brother and watches Lelouch's every move. The love letter incident wastes several hours of Lelouch's time and forces him to use his Geass on an innocent civilian. This unnecessary use of Geass increases the chance that someone might notice his power or remember being controlled. Lelouch returns to his dual life, balancing school activities with his role as Zero. The Black Knights prepare for their next battle against the Britannian Empire, and Lelouch cannot afford further distractions.
13Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
The Black Knights, under Zero's command, execute a large-scale operation to capture the Chinese Federation's capital, Lodai, effectively seizing control of the nation. Lelouch, as Zero, maneuvers to force a confrontation with the eunuch faction holding the young Emperor. Kallen pilots the Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. in the assault, demonstrating its upgraded power against the opposing forces. Li Xingke, aligned with the Black Knights, betrays the eunuchs by seizing the Tianzi, the Empress, from their custody. The eunuchs respond by detonating a pre-planted bomb within the Imperial Palace, killing themselves and numerous others in an attempt to eliminate their enemies. Lelouch uses his Geass on the remnants of the Chinese military to consolidate the Black Knights' control, compelling their surrender. In the aftermath, the United States of China is established under the Tianzi's nominal rule, with Li Xingke acting as her guardian. The Black Knights and the Chinese Federation formally ally, forming the Union of Nations, a direct counter to Britannia. During the celebration, Nunnally appears via a video screen, announcing Britannia's claim over a neutral zone and revealing her role as its governor. Lelouch, shocked by her public position as his adversary, realizes his path to a peaceful world now directly opposes his sister.
14Geass Hunt
The Black Knights hide in a mountain temple after their retreat from the Chinese Federation. Britannia initiates a Geass Hunt, ordering all military units to locate and eliminate individuals with Geass abilities. Lelouch learns that the Emperor and V.V. orchestrate the hunt to erase all traces of Geass, including himself and Rolo. Rolo uses his Geass to kill a squad of Britannian soldiers that discovers their hideout, but Lelouch realizes Rolo’s power has become a liability. Lelouch manipulates Rolo by appealing to their fabricated brotherly bond, ensuring Rolo continues to serve out of a desperate need for belonging. Suzaku receives direct orders from the Emperor to lead a segment of the hunt, placing him on a collision course with Zero. Lelouch, as Zero, deploys the Black Knights to raid a Britannian military base, using the chaos to extract information about the Geass Order’s location. The raid exposes the existence of a secret Geass research facility connected to V.V. Lelouch resolves to destroy the Geass Order, recognizing it as the source of his own power and the Emperor’s scheme. The episode closes with Lelouch setting a course for the Order’s headquarters, directly challenging V.V.’s domain.
15The C's World
Charles zi Britannia transports Lelouch,Suzaku, and Kallen into the Sword of Akasha, a space within C’s World. Charles explains his plan to merge all of humanity into a single collective consciousness through the Ragnarok Connection, erasing individuality and lies. Lelouch rejects the plan, insisting that the past cannot be undone and that his sister Nunnally’s world must be built on the truth of the present. Charles reveals that Marianne vi Britannia’s consciousness resides within Anya Alstreim, having transferred there at the moment of her assassination. Lelouch learns that his parents orchestrated the assassination to free Marianne from her physical body and set their plan in motion. C.C. confronts the collective memories of past Geass contractors, who accuse her of using them as tools. She accepts her role and chooses to remain with Lelouch, rejecting Charles’s vision. Lelouch, Suzaku, and Kallen attempt to escape the Sword of Akasha, but Charles deploys a failsafe that begins collapsing the space. Suzaku uses his Geass command to survive and escape with Kallen, while Lelouch becomes separated and encounters C.C. within C’s World. The Black Knights, under Schneizel’s influence, launch an attack on the Geass Order, eliminating V.V. and seizing control of the Thought Elevator. Charles absorbs V.V.’s Code, becoming immortal and fully capable of initiating the Ragnarok Connection, setting the stage for a direct confrontation with Lelouch.
16Superior G
Lelouch vi Britannia, resuming his role as Zero, activates a Geass previously implanted in hundreds of Britannian soldiers within the Tokyo Settlement. These soldiers turn their weapons on their own comrades, dismantling the garrison’s command structure from within. The Black Knights advance through the resulting chaos, seizing control of the settlement’s outer districts. Suzaku Kururugi launches in the Lancelot to halt the offensive, engaging Black Knights forces in aerial combat. Zero confronts Suzaku directly, revealing his identity and proposing an alliance to rescue Nunnally and reshape the world. Suzaku rejects the offer, citing Lelouch’s reliance on deception and mass manipulation as irreconcilable with his own principles. Their ideological clash escalates into a one-on-one battle, with Lelouch using terrain and tactical traps to counter the Lancelot’s overwhelming mobility. Simultaneously, Schneizel el Britannia monitors the conflict from the Avalon airship, deploying Knightmare frames to reinforce the settlement’s core. Lelouch’s forces capture the central government tower, but Schneizel triggers a pre-set bomb system, threatening to annihilate the entire settlement if Zero does not surrender. The episode ends with Lelouch facing the choice between his objective and the lives of millions.
17The Taste of Humiliation
The Black Knights begin their invasion of Area 11,facing fierce resistance from Britannian forces led by Knights of the Round Luciano Bradley and Bismarck Waldstein. Xingke holds the line against Bismarck’s Galahad, but the Black Knights suffer heavy losses. Lelouch travels alone to the Kururugi Shrine to meet Suzaku as arranged. Suzaku confronts Lelouch about Euphemia’s death, the massacre of the Japanese, and Shirley’s demise, and Lelouch accepts responsibility for each. Suzaku pins Lelouch to the ground with his foot, then offers a condition: he will protect Nunnally if Lelouch continues playing the role of Zero and creates a peaceful world through his lies. Schneizel’s forces surround the shrine before Lelouch can fully accept, and Lelouch believes Suzaku betrayed him again. Lelouch activates a Geass command he planted on Guilford earlier, forcing Guilford to see him as Cornelia and rescue him. Schneizel interrogates Suzaku afterward, demanding to know everything about Geass. Emperor Charles initiates preparations for the Ragnarök Connection. Lelouch returns to the battlefield in the Shinkiro and activates Gefjun Disturbers installed across Tokyo’s train network, shutting down the Tokyo Settlement’s power and immobilizing Britannian Knightmares. The Black Knights launch their assault as reinforcements emerge from the ocean. Suzaku hesitates to pilot the Lancelot, knowing it carries the FLEIJA warhead, as Lelouch sheds tears and declares he needs no friends to protect Nunnally, only his own cunning.
18Second Battle of Tokyo
The Black Knights launch a full-scale assault on the Tokyo Settlement, deploying their naval fleet, the Ikaruga, and a massive Knightmare force under Zero’s tactical command. The Britannian garrison, reinforced by the Knights of Round, counters with the Lancelot Albion, the Mordred, and other advanced frames. Lelouch uses his Geass repeatedly on enemy soldiers and officers, forcing them to fire on their own allies, disable defensive systems, and create openings for the Black Knights’ advance. Suzaku Kururugi pilots the Lancelot Albion into the Ikaruga’s hangar bay, breaking through its defensive lines after a close-quarters engagement with the Black Knights’ ace pilots. Inside the Ikaruga, Suzaku confronts Zero, and Lelouch removes his mask, revealing his identity to Suzaku in a direct face-to-face encounter. Lelouch attempts to activate his Geass on Suzaku, but Suzaku avoids eye contact by closing his eyes and relying on the Lancelot’s sensors to navigate and fight. The battle devastates the Tokyo Settlement, leveling large sections of the city, collapsing government buildings, and causing extensive civilian casualties. The Black Knights suffer critical losses as the Ikaruga takes heavy damage from the Britannian counterattack, with several Knightmare squadrons annihilated. Zero orders a retreat, but the Britannian forces pursue, aiming to destroy the remaining Black Knights and capture Zero. The episode concludes with the Black Knights’ forces scattered, the Ikaruga severely damaged, and Lelouch confronted with the collapse of his strategic position as Schneizel el Britannia consolidates his counteroffensive.
19Betrayal
Nina's FLEIJA warhead destroys a large section of the Tokyo Settlement, killing millions. Suzaku stands in the resulting crater, realizing he triggered the weapon. Lelouch, desperate to find Nunnally, orders the Black Knights to continue the search. Todoh disobeys and orders a retreat, and Jeremiah and Rolo forcibly bring Lelouch back to the Ikaruga. In his quarters, Lelouch reveals his hatred for Rolo, admitting he has tried to kill him multiple times. Schneizel arrives aboard the Ikaruga and reveals Zero's identity as Lelouch vi Britannia to the Black Knights' leadership. He presents a list of individuals Lelouch has controlled with Geass and plays a recording of Lelouch admitting to using Geass on Euphemia. Ougi agrees to surrender Lelouch to Schneizel in exchange for Japan's independence. Kallen leads Lelouch to the hangar, where the Black Knights surround him with weapons. Lelouch removes his mask, declares he manipulated everyone for his own amusement, and tells Kallen to live. Rolo pilots the Shinkiro into the hangar and uses his Geass repeatedly to extract Lelouch. The overuse of his Geass causes Rolo's heart to fail, and he dies after flying Lelouch to safety. Lelouch buries Rolo with the locket he had intended for Nunnally and vows to kill the Emperor himself.
20Emperor Dismissed
On Kamine Island,Emperor Charles activates a global synchronization of ruins to initiate the Sword of Akasha. Aboard the Ikaruga, Anya’s eyes glow red, and Marianne vi Britannia, speaking through Anya’s body, reveals herself to C.C. Marianne enters the World of C, restores C.C.’s memories, and questions why C.C. sealed her own Code. Schneizel declares Emperor Charles unfit to rule, citing his indifference toward war and his obsession with Geass research. Suzaku requests promotion to Knight of One and permission to assassinate the emperor, abandoning his previous ideals for results-driven action. On Kamine Island, Suzaku attacks Charles, but Bismarck Waldstein, wielding his own Geass, repels him. Lelouch arrives in the Shinkiro, uses his Geass to turn Britannian soldiers against their allies, and enters the Sword of Akasha. Charles boasts his immortality and immunity to Geass, but Lelouch detonates a remote charge on the island’s ruins. The explosion destroys the only passage back to the real world, trapping Lelouch and Charles together inside the otherworld indefinitely. With both men sealed away, Schneizel assumes greater control of Britannia’s forces, positioning himself as the new primary threat to Lelouch’s remaining allies.
23Schneizel's Guise
Nunnally, alive and aboard Schneizel’s flagship, declares Lelouch and Suzaku her enemies after learning Lelouch is Zero. She questions whether he waged war for her sake, and Lelouch responds by cruelly laughing and claiming he acted only for himself, cutting off communication. Inside the Avalon, a shaken Lelouch hides his turmoil until Suzaku grabs him and reinforces their commitment to the Zero Requiem plan, vowing to act as Lelouch’s sword while ordering C.C. to be his shield. Schneizel lies to Nunnally by assuring her the people of Pendragon were evacuated before the FLEIJA strike, then reveals to Cornelia his true objective: launching the Damocles into orbit to hold the world hostage with upgraded FLEIJA warheads. Cornelia draws her sword to stop him, but Schneizel has her shot dead by a concealed turret. Sayoko explains to Jeremiah that a decoy shuttle was destroyed while she and Nunnally escaped separately, confirming Schneizel orchestrated Nunnally’s survival. The Black Knights, allied with Schneizel, move to confront Lelouch’s forces in Japan. Lelouch takes the UFN representatives hostage aboard the Avalon, leveraging their lives to negotiate and delay Schneizel’s use of FLEIJA. During the ensuing naval battle, Lelouch detonates the Sakuradite deposits beneath Mount Fuji, creating a massive volcanic explosion that decimates both his own and Schneizel’s ground forces. Schneizel convinces Nunnally to launch a FLEIJA warhead, and Lelouch forces his troops to trigger the bomb mid-air to contain the blast. With his tactical options exhausted and the enemy Damocles still operational, Lelouch faces a desperate situation, relying on Nina, a woman who despises him for Euphemia’s death, to develop a countermeasure to the FLEIJA.
24Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
Lelouch announces the formation of the United Federation of Nations and declares himself its supreme leader, publicly revealing his identity as Zero. The Black Knights, informed by Schneizel about Lelouch’s geass and his role in Euphémia’s massacre, confront him. Lelouch admits to manipulating them but deflects by revealing that Schneizel plans to use the F.L.E.I.J.A. weapon on the capital. Kallen chooses to stay with Lelouch, fighting alongside Suzaku against the Black Knights. Lelouch uses his geass on the collective consciousness of the assembled world leaders through a broadcast, compelling them to recognize the United Federation. Schneizel seizes control of the Damocles fortress, armed with multiple F.L.E.I.J.A. warheads, and declares his intention to freeze the world under the threat of mutual destruction. Suzaku, piloting the Lancelot Albion, engages the Damocles while Lelouch formulates a plan to stop Schneizel by capturing the fortress. Nina Einstein, seeking revenge against Lelouch, activates a F.L.E.I.J.A. device inside the Avalon, forcing a desperate escape. Lelouch orders a retreat, leaving the Black Knights and Schneizel to confront the immediate threat of detonation. The episode concludes with Lelouch and Schneizel on the verge of a final confrontation over control of the Damocles and the fate of the world.

Lelouch and Suzaku stage a confrontation before the assembled leaders of the Black Knights and the United Federation of Nations. Suzaku, as Zero, drives his sword through Lelouch’s chest on the stage of the former imperial palace. As he dies, Lelouch reveals to his sister Nunnally that his ultimate goal was to concentrate all evil and suffering onto himself, thereby creating a peaceful world united against his memory. Through the geass left in her eye, Nunnally witnesses Lelouch’s memories and understands the full scope of his sacrifice. Following his death, Suzaku permanently assumes the identity of Zero and becomes the public face of global order. Nunnally takes up the role of the official representative for the UFN, working alongside the reborn Black Knights to establish lasting peace. The remaining rulers accept the new order, and the world enters an era of reconciliation built upon the lie of the benevolent Zero who defeated the demon emperor. C.C., having completed her contract with Lelouch, reflects on his actions while speaking to him in a contemplative moment, leaving the nature of his final fate ambiguous.
