Description
Gladiator is a muscular, middle-aged superhero with a receding hairline of black hair, recognized as one of the most powerful and beloved figures in the superhero community. His primary ability is superhuman strength, enabling him to easily defeat groups of super villains and overpower formidable opponents like the corrupt superhero Praetorian with a single punch that inflicts permanent brain damage.
He is married to another superhero but maintains a secret life under the alias "Glenda" to arrange anonymous sexual encounters in distant locations, deliberately avoiding his home country to conceal this activity. This double life becomes the basis for blackmail when small-time criminal Johnny Bolt, posing as a potential encounter via the alias "Poppabear", obtains intimate photos of Gladiator. Bolt threatens to expose the infidelity to Gladiator's husband and the public unless Gladiator assists in a heist targeting super-powered crime boss Christopher Matts, known as The Bastard.
Initially resistant to collaborating with villains he despises, Gladiator reluctantly agrees after learning the target is The Bastard and that Praetorian—a disgraced former superhero now working as The Bastard's bodyguard—will be present. Gladiator holds deep contempt for Praetorian, viewing him as a corrupt figure who sullies the reputation of superheroes. Johnny Bolt further incentivizes him by promising to donate Gladiator's share of the heist proceeds to an LGBTQ charity.
During the heist, Gladiator wears a pink costume provided by Bolt and endures constant mockery about his sexuality and the "Glenda" alias. He expresses disgust at the methods of other crew members, particularly the Diesel Brothers' gruesome approach to bypassing security lasers. As the team's designated muscle, his role is to confront Praetorian if he intervenes. When Praetorian arrives and attacks the crew, Gladiator initially withholds assistance, allowing the villains to be beaten. However, his hatred for Praetorian ultimately compels him to intervene. After a brief exchange where Praetorian attempts to placate him, Gladiator delivers the incapacitating punch.
Following the heist's success, Gladiator ensures the crew escapes and permanently eliminates his vulnerability to blackmail by publicly announcing his homosexuality and infidelity. He is accepted by the superhero community and reconciles with his husband, leading to their marriage.
