Description
Gold Jaguar is a fictional character and antagonist from the 1980 television series Kamen Rider (New Kamen Rider), serving as a monster created by the evil organization Neo-Shocker. This character appears in episodes 31 and 32 of the series.
Gold Jaguar is a humanoid kaijin, or monster, that has been artificially enhanced with the characteristics of a black jaguar. He hails from the Neo-Shocker branch in the Sahara Desert in Africa and was summoned to Japan for a critical mission. As a combatant, he is considered a master of spear fighting, and his body is clad in golden armor from which his name is derived. He is also noted for being an effective fighter on horseback, wielding his lance while riding.
In terms of personality, Gold Jaguar is distinctly portrayed as a warrior with a sense of pride and honor, a trait that sets him apart from many other monsters in the series. He despises cowardly tactics and greatly prefers a fair, one-on-one duel with a worthy opponent. This honorable nature is a central aspect of his character, creating a contrast with his villainous role.
Gold Jaguar's primary motivation is to prove his strength by defeating a powerful enemy in single combat. His role in the story is to act as a special assassin for Neo-Shocker, tasked with killing the hero, Skyrider. He challenges Skyrider to a duel at the Demon Pass, seeking a decisive and honorable victory. However, during this initial confrontation, the duel is interrupted by another Neo-Shocker monster, Torikabutron, much to Gold Jaguar's anger. Feeling that his honor has been compromised, he threatens to return to Africa, but is ultimately persuaded by his superior, Admiral Majin, to remain in Japan for the final battle at the Neo-Shocker Grand Temple.
His key relationship is with his adversary, Skyrider, for whom he develops a mutual respect as a fellow warrior. He also has a contrasting dynamic with his ally Torikabutron, whose interference he resents. While he serves Neo-Shocker, his personal code of honor places him at odds with the organization's typical methods of underhanded scheming.
The character experiences a notable moment of development at the moment of his destruction. In the final battle, he confronts Skyrider and unleashes his ultimate technique. Even when his attack is countered and he is defeated by Skyrider’s finishing move, he is shown to muster his last remaining strength to stand up and accept his loss with dignity before exploding. This act signifies a warriors death, recognizing his opponents superior skill. Later, he was briefly revived as a member of the Dogma Revenge Corps, a group of resurrected monsters, where he wielded a shield in battle before being destroyed once again by Kamen Rider 1.
Gold Jaguar possesses several notable abilities. His primary skill is his mastery of the spear, with his signature technique being the "Hissatsu Ougon Jaguar Daisharin Tsuki," which translates to the "Golden Jaguar Large Wheel Thrust," a powerful spinning spear attack. In response to this move, Skyrider uses a special technique called the "Yari Watari Kagerou no Jutsu," which allows him to stand on the shaft of the spear and negate its power by reducing his own weight to zero. This specific counter highlights the unique nature of Gold Jaguar's primary weapon-based fighting style.
