Description
Armored Captain Gatenzone serves as one of the primary antagonists in the story, holding the title of leader of the Robot Unit within the Crisis Empire's Earth invasion force. He is one of the four commanders who answer directly to General Jark, the empire's military leader on Earth. Gatenzone is himself a robot of advanced design, and he is also a skilled mechanic who is responsible for both managing the machinery of the Crisis Fortress and constructing the various robot soldiers that serve under his command.
His personality is distinctly nihilistic and sardonic. Gatenzone is a lone wolf who typically displays a cynical wit, often using clever remarks to mock his colleagues when they experience failure. Unlike other members of the Crisis Empire who are driven by ambition or a desire for promotion, he shows little interest in rank or loyalty to the imperial hierarchy. Instead, his primary focus is an obsessive, almost single-minded drive to defeat the hero, Kamen Rider BLACK RX. This fixation is so powerful that he is willing to disobey direct orders from General Jark and collaborate with outcast figures like Colonel Dasmader if it brings him closer to a confrontation with his target.
Within the story's narrative, Gatenzone functions as a recurring and formidable member of the antagonist forces. He periodically engages the hero in battle, often riding his personal motorcycle, the Storm Dagger. While he works alongside other commanders like Maribaron on several operations, their personalities do not align well, as she is deeply devoted to General Jark while Gatenzone operates according to his own code. He maintains the Crisis Fortress and creates the robotic monsters of the week that are sent to attack and destabilize the Earth. His character arc culminates in a final, desperate act of defiance. Obsessed with personally defeating RX, he goes so far as to accept a Crisis Charger from Colonel Dasmader to upgrade his motorcycle into the more powerful Neo-Storm Dagger. However, this betrayal leads to his exile from the Crisis Fortress by General Jark. Undeterred, he deploys the ultimate robot soldier, Helgadem, for a final battle. When his plans fail and his allies are destroyed, he resorts to detaching his own head from his body, intending to use his torso as a timed bomb to kill his enemy. This final suicide attack fails, and he is ultimately destroyed, vowing with his last words to wait for his nemesis in hell.
Gatenzone possesses several notable abilities that make him a unique threat. He is considered the number one sniper in the Monster World, and his primary weapon is a classic-style, single-handed laser shotgun. He is also a highly skilled motorcycle pilot, using his machine, the Storm Dagger, which is armed with four cannons. His most distinctive ability is his power to detach his own head from his body. When separated, his body can continue to move and fight independently. His head also contains his final defensive weapon, a high-output destructive beam that can be fired from his eyes. Despite his advanced armament, he is notably less proficient in hand-to-hand combat and is often overpowered when forced into close-quarters fighting.
