Description
Kamen Rider Leangle is the transformation of Mutsuki Kamijo, a weak-willed high school student who becomes the host for the Spider Undead, the Category Ace of Clubs. The Leangle system was developed through the manipulations of Isaka, the Peacock Undead, who needed the Spider Undead to complete it. However, the Spider Undead was not properly sealed; it intentionally allowed itself to be sealed into the Change Spider card so it could inhabit a human host and pursue its own agenda within the Battle Fight, the ancient conflict among the fifty-two Undead species for dominance of Earth.
The Spider Undead is a large, spider-like monster capable of producing tough, adhesive silk from its right arm and mouth, which it uses to restrain enemies and interfere with their attacks. It also emits tiny golden parasitic spiders that seek out humans with high compatibility, allowing the Undead to bond with them. Its combat style relies on both physical strength and webbing to control the battlefield. Once it found an ideal host in Mutsuki, the Spider Undead exerted a strong influence over him, often taking control of his body and pushing him to fight ruthlessly.
Mutsuki himself is initially portrayed as timid, fearful, and easily manipulated. He is reluctant to use the Leangle powers and is prone to being controlled by the Spider Undead’s malice, which drives him to attack the other Kamen Riders—Blade, Garren, and Chalice. His early character arc is defined by his struggle against this internal darkness. A key turning point comes when he must face the Mole Undead; despite his fear of the dark, he overcomes it after seeing the grateful smiles of the people he rescues. This begins a gradual process of self-assertion, supported by the kindness of his girlfriend Nozomi, whose love helps him resist the Spider Undead’s mind control.
Mutsuki’s most important relationships are with Sakuya Tachibana (Kamen Rider Garren), who becomes his mentor, teaching him how to control his powers and fight for others, and with Kazuma Kenzaki (Kamen Rider Blade), whom he initially opposes but later comes to respect. He also interacts with the higher-ranking Undead that he seals: the Category King of Clubs (a pacifist), the Category Queen (honorable and loyal), and the Category Jack (laid-back). These Undead are unusually peaceful and, with their help, Mutsuki is eventually able to suppress the Spider Undead completely. In episode 42, using the power of the Tiger Undead and the King Rouzer from Kamen Rider Blade, he finally seals the Spider Undead properly, breaking its hold over him.
As a Rider, Leangle lacks a Jack Form like the other BOARD-created Riders, but he possesses a unique ability: he can unseal other Undead by using the Remote Tapir card (Category 10 of Clubs) to release them as temporary allies or to control them. This ability is particularly useful in battles against powerful enemies such as the Keroberos Undead. After the Spider Undead is sealed, this power is removed, as no other Undead remain. His fighting style is aggressive, utilizing Club-themed Rouse Cards for punches, kicks, and elemental attacks, and he wields the Leangle Rouzer as his personal weapon.
Later in the series, Mutsuki becomes more confident and independent, eventually deciding to take on Joker (the 53rd Undead) himself, though he ultimately loses that fight. His final appearance shows him at peace, playing basketball with Nozomi. The character evolves from a troubled, controlled pawn into a genuine hero who fights to protect humanity, having overcome the Spider Undead’s corrupting influence through the support of his allies and his own growing willpower.
