Description
Kiriya is a character who serves as a minor antagonist and later a tragic figure in the narrative. He is a servant created by the Evil King to do his bidding, and he is also the younger brother of a fellow minion named Poisony. His primary mission is to infiltrate the human world to spy on the main heroines, and he does so by enrolling as a transfer student at Verone Junior High School under the alias Irisawa Kiriya. At school, he is known for his talent in soccer and his good looks, which quickly make him popular among the female students.
Kiriya initially has a serious and pessimistic personality, doubting his own ability to change his predetermined fate as a creation of the Evil King. He has a somewhat antagonistic yet teasing relationship with his sister, Poisony, though deep down he is upset by her eventual demise. As he spends more time in the human world, he begins to struggle with concepts he has never encountered before, such as the importance of helping others and the nature of romantic love. Honoka, in particular, confuses him with her kindness and her refusal to be swayed by his appearances. When he hurts himself and she tends to his wound, or when he observes her determination and gentle nature, he begins to experience a change in perspective, slowly developing human-like emotions and finding hope.
His role in the story is complex, as he is neither a typical villain nor a true ally. While he is supposed to help his sister defeat the heroines, he finds himself unable to go through with it. He secretly saves the heroines from a deadly trap and ultimately rebels against his mission. In a final confrontation, instead of fighting to the death, he gives his Prism Stone to Honoka, an act that brands him as a traitor to the Evil King. He accepts his resulting punishment without resistance, believing he has done all he could.
Kiriya undergoes significant development from a being who blindly follows his destiny to one who believes in the possibility of change. His bond with Honoka is the catalyst for this change. Their relationship is described as being close, resembling that of a brother and sister, though his feelings for her run deeper. She is the one who teaches him that he can create his own destiny, and he ultimately holds faith in the heroines until the very end. He later reappears during the final battle to help the heroines hide from the Evil King, surprised by their courage. Because he was made by the Evil King, he vanishes upon the king's defeat, but he does so with a newfound belief in hope.
In terms of abilities, Kiriya has two distinct forms. In his natural form from the Dotsuku Zone, he has neck-length dark green hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. When disguised as a human, his eyes turn green and he gains eyebrows, though he loses his natural fangs. He is notable for being the only member of the Dotsuku Zone who never summons a Zakenna, the typical monster minions. Instead, he is shown to be capable of creating barriers. He also guards the yellow Prism Stone, which he ultimately surrenders. After the final battle, Honoka sees a young human boy who bears a strong resemblance to him, suggesting a possible reincarnation or a new beginning.
