TV-Series
Description
Akane Kowata is the older sister of the main protagonist, Makoto Kowata, and serves as a major character in the series. At twenty-one years old, she is a full-fledged and remarkably talented witch who has already earned a reputation as a genius within the magical community. In appearance, she is distinct from her sister, with light brown skin, light grey hair that falls just below her shoulders, and green eyes. Her features bear a resemblance to Makoto's, which helps identify them as siblings.

Akane's personality is defined by a casual carefreeness that contrasts with the slower, quieter pace of the rural setting. She is described by another character as being like a typhoon, not because she is forceful or burdensome, but because she operates at a completely different energy level than the tranquil life of the countryside. She is kind, outspoken, and possesses a mischievous streak that often leads to chaotic situations, though she generally remains responsible overall. One of her most prominent traits is her deep love for alcohol, and she is frequently seen drinking at any time of day, either alone or with friends. Her drinking sometimes leads to problems, such as the incident where a night of revelry with a friend resulted in that friend being partially transformed into a dog. Another time, after missing her train due to drinking, she committed the extreme act of stopping time around the entire world, an action for which she was later called before a witches' association.

As a wanderer who travels the world, Akane's motivations stem from a strong sense of curiosity and a desire to explore different forms of magic. She journeys to unusual and far-flung locations, often bringing back souvenirs that are typically useless but given with affection. She is very faithful to her own desires, a trait that has led other witches to call her a bundle of desires. Her travels have given her a vast network of acquaintances around the globe. In the story, her role is primarily that of a mentor and a catalyst for magical events. She acts as a guide to her younger sister Makoto and takes on Chinatsu Kuramoto, Makoto's young cousin, as her student when Chinatsu declares she wants to become a witch. When she visits the Kuramoto household, she often naps in various spots, performs bizarre or troublesome magic on a whim, and teaches the younger characters about the magical world.

Her key relationships are centered on her family. She loves her sister Makoto very much and makes frequent visits to see her and her other relatives, including Keiji, Nana, Kei, and Chinatsu Kuramoto. Her relationship with Chinatsu is particularly important, as she takes on a direct teaching role. Akane also has a good friend named Inukai, who is a fellow witch and her drinking companion, despite the aforementioned incident involving an unwanted transformation. Accompanying Akane on her travels is her Siamese cat familiar, named Kenny. Kenny is very cat-like in her expressions and habits and patiently endures the chaos that often surrounds her owner. Unlike her sister Makoto, who is still in training, Akane is already a master of her craft, so she does not undergo significant development. Instead, her presence drives the development of others, particularly Chinatsu's training.

Akane's magical abilities are immense and place her among the most powerful witches in this world. She is able to casually perform teleportation magic, a feat that only a very small number of witches can achieve, and she can even transport multiple people at once. Her power is so great that five years before the story begins, she accidentally blew up a mountain because she could not control her strength, earning her the unwanted nickname Mountain Eraser. She can also perform advanced feats like summoning a high-ranking figure from the world of light who governs time and splitting fog by controlling the wavelength of light. Her mana is said to be amplified when she is drunk. Despite these incredible powers, she has notable weaknesses. She has difficulty with combat-type magic and becomes terrified when facing something like a leopard, showing no affinity for aggressive spells. She is also said to be incredibly bad with mechanical devices and struggled for a long time with using a smartphone.
