Description
Chief Yamamoto leads the Japanese branch of a global organization devoted to preventing the misuse of ancient, powerful artifacts. His surname, signifying "mountain base" or "mountain origin," aligns with his foundational position within the organization's Japanese operations.

He encountered Yu Ominae upon learning of Yu’s traumatic history as a former COSMOS project child soldier. Recognizing the need for intervention, Yamamoto assumed guardianship of Yu. He personally directed Yu’s training in military tactics, guerrilla warfare, and field operations, forging him into a skilled operative known as a Spriggan. Yamamoto also became Yu’s primary handler, overseeing his missions and activities.

Beyond mentoring Yu, Yamamoto exhibited strategic insight into interpersonal connections. He orchestrated Rie Yamabishi’s return to Japan after uncovering her historical ties to Yu, intending to harness her linguistic expertise for artifact research while subtly addressing unresolved emotional bonds from their shared past. He advised Yu to conceal his Spriggan identity from Rie, prioritizing her perceived safety from the hazards of his covert life.

Yamamoto engaged directly in pivotal field operations. He defended ARCAM’s Japanese headquarters against a COSMOS assault led by Sho Kanaya, who aimed to eliminate Spriggans and seize ARCAM’s resources. Later, confronting internal corruption within ARCAM’s leadership, Yamamoto accompanied President Henry Garnum and Trident Corporation executive Larry Markson to the South Pole to exploit the Fire Snake artifact within the South Pole Shrine. At a critical juncture, Yamamoto joined Rie Yamabishi and other ARCAM personnel in opposing Garnum and Markson. They defeated their Antarctic forces and played an essential role in containing and neutralizing the Fire Snake before its catastrophic power escalated uncontrollably.
