Description
Mineva Lao Zabi, who adopts the alias Audrey Burne, is the last surviving member of the Zabi family, the former ruling dynasty of the Principality of Zeon. Born on September 2, UC 0079 at the asteroid fortress Solomon during the height of the One Year War, she is the only daughter of Dozle Zabi and Zenna Zabi. As the Earth Federation overran Solomon, she escaped with her mother, first to Granada and then to A Baoa Qu, before fleeing to the asteroid base Axis under the protection of Char Aznable. Her mother died of illness in UC 0081, and Mineva became dependent on her guardians at Axis. After Maharaja Karn's death in UC 0083, his daughter Haman Karn became Mineva's regent and subjected her to an imperial education that instilled the belief that Zabi rule would bring prosperity to Spacenoids. During the Gryps Conflict in UC 0087, the eight-year-old Mineva served as the nominal leader of Axis Zeon, used as a figurehead to legitimize Haman's authority. At the conclusion of that conflict, Mineva mysteriously disappeared from Axis, later revealed to have been replaced by a body double while the real Mineva was spirited away to live as an ordinary schoolgirl on Earth, likely arranged by Char Aznable to free her from being a political puppet. By UC 0096, Mineva had emerged from hiding and was working with the Neo Zeon remnant faction known as the Sleeves, but she had come to believe that peace was the only path forward for humanity. Adopting the alias Audrey Burne, she traveled to the space colony Industrial 7 aboard the disguised freighter Garencieres to prevent the Vist Foundation from delivering Laplace's Box to the Sleeves, hoping to avert another devastating war. While sneaking into the colony, she was rescued from mortal danger by Banagher Links, a technical college student, and their meeting proved fateful as Banagher soon became the pilot of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam. Initially hiding her true identity, she gradually revealed herself as the last surviving Zabi heir as she worked alongside Banagher to uncover the truth behind Laplace's Box while opposing the violent methods of Full Frontal, who claimed to be the second coming of Char Aznable. She ultimately chose to reveal the contents of Laplace's Box to the world, believing transparency was necessary to break the cycle of conflict that had plagued the Earth Sphere for nearly a century. Mineva possesses a kind, focused, and righteous personality that sets her apart from other members of the Zabi family. Despite her aristocratic upbringing, she never embraced the militant aspects of the Zeonic movement, and her experiences left her with a deep aversion to violence and a strong desire for peace. She is not interested in ruling or inheriting her royal legacy if it means perpetuating war, and she demonstrates remarkable courage in her willingness to betray her own people and even sacrifice herself for peace. This pacifistic nature often puts her at odds with those who seek to use her as a symbol for violent ambitions. Her time under Haman's tutelage gave her a sophisticated understanding of politics and military strategy, but she uses these skills in pursuit of reconciliation rather than conquest. She shows considerable wisdom and maturity for her age, often serving as a voice of reason during the Laplace crisis. Though not a Newtype in the traditional sense, she demonstrates some psychic sensitivity, particularly during moments of intense emotion or crisis when exposed to Psycho-Frame technology and high concentrations of Minovsky particles, which can awaken psychic impressions of deceased individuals. Her primary abilities lie in diplomacy and political leadership, with a deep understanding of military tactics, political maneuvering, and the complex relationships between various factions. She is skilled at reading people's motivations and finding common ground between opposing parties, and she possesses considerable personal charisma and the ability to inspire loyalty in others. Her relationship with Banagher Links begins when he rescues her during her infiltration of Industrial 7, and their shared experiences bring them closer together. Banagher's idealistic nature and genuine desire to protect others resonate strongly with her own pacifistic beliefs, and their relationship develops from mutual dependence into something deeper, with both finding in each other someone who shares their hope for a better future. Her relationship with Haman Karn is complex and troubled, as Haman genuinely cared for Mineva's wellbeing but also saw her as a political tool, subjecting her to imperial education and using her as a figurehead. Mineva's development throughout the story sees her transform from a fugitive heir hiding her identity into a public figure willing to reveal a foundational secret of the Earth Federation in order to break the cycle of war, ultimately rejecting the violent legacy of her family name and choosing to forge a path of transparency and reconciliation for humanity's future.
