Lieutenant-Colonel Maria Clemente, one of the British army's youngest officers at age 20, is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her duties included procuring an ancient artifact known as the Berserker from a scientist named Professor Mauser for military research, an assignment which caused the professor to develop a powerful grudge against the British military.

During the operation to secure the artifact, she collaborated with Yu Ominae, an agent of the ARCAM Foundation. They worked together to defeat Professor Mauser and eliminate the Berserker threat. In the course of the mission, Maria Clemente sustained a severe gunshot wound to her stomach. She survived the injury, which was treated by Yu Ominae before British soldiers arrived to rescue her.
