Description
Fukashi Hamanaka is a graduate student at National Nagoya University, where he is enrolled in the first year of the master's program focusing on virtual reality research. He is a member of Professor Saikawa's seminar group, a position that places him at the periphery of the story's central events.

In terms of appearance, Hamanaka is characterized by his small stature and an effeminate air. He has black hair cut to ear-length and gray eyes, and his typical attire includes a shirt, sneakers, and three-quarter length pants. His voice is notably high-pitched.

Personality-wise, Hamanaka is presented as a timid individual. He is notably fearful of Momoko Kunieda, Saikawa's assistant, and makes a conscious effort to avoid her whenever possible, as she is generally feared by the student body. This timidity extends to social situations, as he hesitates to interrupt others, such as when he found it difficult to ask Kunieda for help with a computer issue.

Hamanaka's role in the narrative is that of a supporting character within the university setting. He is present in Saikawa's office when Moe Nishinosono shares details of her initial video conference interview with the reclusive genius Shiki Magata. In a practical capacity, he is assigned the role of organizer for the seminar group's trip, which inadvertently leads to the group camping on Himakajima Island, the location of the Magata Research Institute where the main mystery unfolds.

His key relationships are primarily defined by his academic circle. He interacts with Associate Professor Sohei Saikawa, to whom he reports technical issues, and with his fellow graduate student Moe Nishinosono, whom he recognizes upon her visits. Most significantly, his dynamic with Momoko Kunieda is marked by avoidance and fear, which is a notable aspect of his student life.

Hamanaka does not undergo significant development within the story arc, serving a consistent functional role as a student member of the seminar. His notable abilities, as suggested by his field of study, lie within the domain of virtual reality, and he is shown to be comfortable seeking out Saikawa for assistance with computer problems.
