Description
Dekopompo is a character from the anime Utawarerumono: The False Faces, where he serves as one of the Eight Pillar Generals of the Yamato Empire. His position is not one he earned through personal merit or notable skill on the battlefield. Instead, Dekopompo inherited his title by right of succession, a gesture from the Mikado to honor his more capable and loyal father. He is frequently described as an obese little man with an arrogant demeanor and poor taste, surrounding himself with opulence and beautiful women.

Dekopompo is defined by his deep-seated resentment toward Oshtor, a fellow general who rose to prominence and earned widespread glory and popularity despite a comparatively low birth. Unlike the self-made Oshtor, Dekopompo holds no true talent or strategic ability, and he loathes the success that he himself cannot achieve. On the rare occasions he takes to the battlefield, he is reckless to the point of catastrophe, often ignoring the counsel of his own tacticians and making decisions that endanger his own allies.

His primary motivation revolves around his desire for recognition and his quest to destroy Oshtor. In an attempt to prove his worth or eliminate his rival, he launches an unprovoked attack on the city of Ennakamuy on behalf of the Imperial Court. Despite holding a numerical advantage, his siege is a catastrophic failure due to his lack of strategy, allowing Oshtor to easily collapse a tunnel and destroy his army's siege towers with fire and oil. Beyond his military incompetence, Dekopompo is also corrupt. He operates an illegal gambling ship where he forces massive carnivorous bugs to fight, a practice strictly forbidden in Yamato. This operation is eventually exposed when characters Ukon and Haku infiltrate the vessel and gather evidence of his crimes. As a result of this discovery, he is thrown into imprisonment. However, he manages to escape with the help of his right-hand man, Bokoinante, and promptly destroys all evidence of his wrongdoing.

Among the other Pillar Generals and his peers at court, Dekopompo is generally viewed with disdain and barely concealed contempt. They ignore his interjections during war councils and dismiss him as a fool who cares more about glory than strategy. His only significant relationship is with his subordinate Bokoinante, who aids him in his escape and his military endeavors. As a character, Dekopompo shows no positive development. He remains consistently arrogant, incompetent, and cowardly throughout his appearance. His end comes during his siege of Ennakamuy. When cornered by Oshtor after the failure of his assault, he attempts one final desperate gambit. He releases a Gaunji, a massive and ferocious carnivorous insect, intending to use it to crush his enemy. The plan backfires instantly. The gaunji turns on its handler instead of its intended target. Dekopompo is devoured by the creature, a gruesome fate that is considered by many to be a fitting end for someone of his reputation. In terms of notable abilities, Dekopompo possesses no combat prowess or strategic acumen. His only notable actions involve the attempted use of the gaunji and his operation of the illegal gambling enterprise, neither of which demonstrate any personal skill. A spin-off game depicts him with abilities focused on wealth accumulation rather than combat, reinforcing his characterization as a man driven by greed and status rather than martial talent.
