TV-Series
Description
Honoka is the personal servant to the Mikado, the ruler of the nation of Yamato, and also serves his daughter, Princess Anju. Her role extends to that of the High Priestess, a position of significant religious authority within the court. She is the biological mother of the twin priestesses Uruuru and Saraana. Honoka's origins are directly tied to the ruling family; she was created using the DNA of the Mikado's deceased wife, while Anju was created from the DNA of the Mikado's daughter, making her and Anju biologically mother and daughter, though their relationship does not reflect this familial bond.
In terms of appearance, Honoka has platinum blonde hair and is typically seen wearing the distinct attire of a shrine maiden or miko. Her personality is defined by a calm and strict demeanor. She is a composed individual who is quick to chastise others when they fail to follow rules or proper decorum, reflecting her position as an enforcer of courtly protocol.
Honoka's motivations are deeply rooted in loyalty and service. She is fiercely protective of the Mikado, a devotion that defines her actions. Her loyalty is so profound that she is willing to risk her own safety for him, a sentiment she confesses grows into genuine love over time, a feeling that the Mikado admits he failed to recognize earlier. Before the events of The False Faces, Honoka played a key role by rescuing the warrior Oshtor from an assassin named Mayacowl. Following this rescue, she introduced Oshtor and his companions to the Mikado, setting significant future events in motion.
Her key relationships are complex. Despite her biological connection to Anju, Honoka does not act as a mother to her; instead, she serves as a strict teacher and attendant. Her relationship with the Mikado, the Emperor of Yamato, is the most central, defined by unwavering service that deepens into personal affection. Her interactions with the protagonist, Haku, are notable for a subconscious recognition on his part, as he remembers her as being his sister-in-law from his past life. Honoka also has a twin sister named Yumir, with whom she was once inseparable.
Throughout the story of The False Faces, Honoka's development is tragic. After an assassination attempt on the Mikado, she goes missing. It is later revealed that the Mikado survived and was being secretly healed in a mausoleum, with Honoka staying by his side to care for him. Her story ends when the superweapon Amaterasu is activated to destroy a horde of monstrous Tartari. Refusing to abandon the Mikado, Honoka chooses to remain with him, and both perish as a result. As the High Priestess, her notable abilities are tied to her spiritual authority, and her daughters are described as the Kamunagi of Chains, powerful priestesses serving beneath her.
