TV-Series
Description
Atui is a princess of the domain of Shahhoro and the daughter of Soyankekuru, one of the powerful Eight Pillar Generals who serve the Emperor of Yamato. She is a young woman with a distinctive appearance, characterized by short black hair often adorned with ornaments at the ends, orange eyes, and the animal-like ears and small tail common to the people of this world. Her typical attire consists of a primarily orange and white leotard with metal accents and matching boots.
Atui possesses a personality marked by a striking duality. On the surface, she often appears as a bright and somewhat carefree young lady, seemingly unconcerned with the formalities and responsibilities of her royal station. She has a strong romantic side and is highly motivated by the idea of finding a perfect partner, even claiming to have come to the capital for the sole purpose of falling in love. Despite this romantic yearning, she is also very picky about her type, easily losing interest in men she finds to be too rigid or otherwise not to her exacting standards. She shares a close friendship with Rurutie, another princess, and the two enjoy spending time together, shopping and talking, even though Atui is aware of Rurutie's interest in stories about romantic relationships between men.
This playful and somewhat ditzy demeanor stands in stark contrast to her behavior on the battlefield, where she undergoes a complete transformation. Known throughout Yamato as a berserker, Atui possesses a genuine love for combat and bloodshed, finding battle to be a thrilling and enjoyable affair. When facing a powerful opponent, she can lose her usual composure, her eyes seeming to lose their light as she acts on pure battle instinct. This ferocious side is so pronounced that she has earned the nickname the "Mad Princess of Shahhoro". In line with this aggressive fighting style, Atui is an expert spearmaster, and she is always accompanied by a small pet named Kurarin, which she keeps perched on top of her head.
Atui's role in the story begins when she encounters the protagonist, Haku. She essentially forces him to accompany her on a tour of the capital, visiting various locations she deems romantic, during which she becomes easily flustered by his presence. It is later revealed that her father had dispatched retainers to find her after she had run off, and the mission to locate her was the first assignment given to Haku and his companions by the general Oshtor. After this introduction, she becomes a recurring ally, joining Haku and his group in their activities as Oshtor's spies. Her status as the daughter of a powerful general often complicates matters, particularly in situations involving political intrigue or when her loyalty to her friends conflicts with her position.
Her key relationships are central to her character development. Her interactions with Haku are a significant part of her story, as their initial "date" and subsequent time together suggest a budding affection, though the nature and depth of her feelings remain somewhat ambiguous. However, deeper analysis reveals that she does develop genuine emotions for him, feeling a sense of tightness in her chest when confronting his apparent death, even if she struggles to fully understand or articulate these feelings. In the continuation of the story, she is eventually able to realize that Oshtor is actually Haku in disguise, demonstrating her perceptiveness and the strength of her connection to him. Her relationship with her father, Soyankekuru, is also notable, as his own nature as a battle-hardened warrior helps to explain her own upbringing and ferocious personality.
Throughout the narrative, Atui exhibits notable abilities beyond her physical prowess. Her combat skills are formidable, and she is known for her overwhelming offensive power, utilizing a spear with great skill. Her fighting style is that of a berserker, and she possesses the ability to act multiple times in rapid succession after felling an enemy, making her a devastating force on the battlefield. She also has a unique, relaxed demeanor that can come across as being from another dimension, speaking with an elegant tone that contrasts with her violent capabilities.
