TV-Series
Description
Haruka Amagiri is the elder half-sister of the protagonist, Ayato Amagiri, sharing the same mother but having a different father. She is a central figure in the story's background, as her mysterious disappearance five years before the main events of the series serves as the primary motivation for her brother to enroll at Seidoukan Academy on the waterborne city of Asterisk.
In terms of appearance, Haruka has blue hair which she typically arranges into two low pigtails. She wears black horn-rimmed glasses, a piece of attire she personally dislikes but chooses to wear when engaging in combat. Her age during the main storyline is approximately 22 to 25 years old, as she is about five or six years older than her brother.
Haruka's personality is defined by a strong protective instinct, particularly towards her younger brother. She took on a maternal role in Ayato's life following the death of their mother, Sakura Amagiri, caring for him and instructing him in their family's martial arts tradition. She appears lively and gentle in her interactions with Ayato, though she can also be stern when the situation demands it. Her primary motivation throughout the narrative is to protect Ayato from harm, even at great personal cost.
Haruka's role in the story is that of a hidden catalyst. Before vanishing, she used her unique abilities as a Strega, or witch, to place three powerful seals on Ayato to suppress his immense but unstable prana, preventing him from following her into danger. She entered Seidoukan Academy but only attended for half a year, leaving behind almost no official records, which adds to the mystery surrounding her. During her time away, she participated in the illegal underground fighting tournament known as the Eclipse. There, she was forced into a confrontation with her biological father, Madiath Mesa, who threatened Ayato to secure her cooperation with his organization, the Golden Bough Alliance. She was defeated in this fight, and a shard of the Orga Lux Raksha-Nada was embedded within her, leading her to induce a coma-like state in herself that lasted for five years. She is eventually awakened from this slumber after the Gryps tournament, using the wishes of her brother and his allies with the help of the scientist Hilda Jane Rowlands.
Key relationships define much of Haruka's actions. Her bond with her half-brother, Ayato, is the most significant. Having trained him in the Amagiri Shinmeiryuu school of swordsmanship, she is deeply devoted to his safety. After being awakened, she resumes this role, training Ayato to master the Orga Lux Ser-Versta, which she once wielded herself, and teaching him the most secret, extreme-level techniques of their family's style. Her relationship with her biological father, Madiath Mesa, is adversarial; she actively worked to sabotage his plans before being defeated, and upon her return, she continues to oppose him. She also has a stepfather, Masatsugu Amagiri, who is Ayato's biological father.
Haruka's personal development is marked by her transition from a protective sister taking desperate measures into a more direct agent of change. Upon awakening, she chooses to confront the threats she had tried to shield her brother from. She joins the organization Stjarnagarm, also known as the Star Hunt Guard, to actively combat the Golden Bough Alliance and shares all the information she has about their plans with Ayato and his friends. She finally reveals the truth about her past, her father, and the reasons for her disappearance.
Haruka's notable abilities are considerable, making her one of the most powerful characters in the series. She is a Genestella, possessing enhanced physical capabilities and a large reserve of prana. As a Strega, her unique power is the ability to forcibly bind or seal anything in creation, a power she personally despises. She is a master of the Amagiri Shinmeiryuu swordsmanship style, possessing a level of skill and proficiency far greater than her brother, having mastered almost all of its systematized techniques. She is also one of the rare individuals capable of wielding an Orga Lux, having been the original owner of the flame-attribute sword Ser-Versta, also known as the Black Furnace Magic Sword. Her combat prowess is so high that she could easily defeat Ayato before he had broken her seals and was able to fight on equal terms with her father, Madiath Mesa. She also possesses a technique called Shiki, which expands her perception to its limit, allowing her to gather detailed information about her opponents and surroundings to predict attacks.
