TV-Series
Description
Delilah Uzal, also known by the alias Sahar Schehera, is a pivotal character who drives much of the plot in Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn. She first appears as a mysterious and eccentric genius scientist sunbathing on a cruise ship, where she encounters the full-body cyborg Nene Nanakorobi. On the surface, Uzal is a highly influential philanthropist on the manmade island of Cenancle, serving as the representative of the Leah Foundation, which is instrumental to the island's infrastructure and development.
Beneath this public persona, Uzal is a far more complex and morally ambiguous figure. Her personality is marked by supreme self-confidence and a flair for the dramatic; she is prone to boasting about her own beauty and intelligence, often introducing herself as a great, beautiful, and wise scientist. This narcissism is balanced by a genuine, if unconventional, genius and a rebellious streak. Her motivations are deeply rooted in her origins. Uzal is not a natural human but an advanced artificial life form known as a bioroid, created as the 386th successful prototype in a project that aimed to develop artificial humans for the future of humanity. Despite her genius-level intellect, her initial design came with a critical flaw: a very short lifespan. By the time of the main story, her life has already reached its limit.
Having witnessed humanity repeating the same destructive patterns of war and famine, her initial goal of helping humanity evolves into a conviction that the world is fundamentally rotten. This leads her to decide that she must take the lead in conquering the world to fix it, ultimately revealing herself as the final antagonist of the series. In her final confrontation, she declares herself the head of the secret society Across and plans to use the immense power of her superweapon, Buer, to enact her vision of global domination.
Uzal's role in the story is that of a catalyst, a mentor, and eventually a formidable foe. She is the original owner and creator of the combat android Clarion, whom she transfers to Nene during a terrorist attack on her underground laboratory. In a last-ditch effort to save Nene and stop a rampaging weapon, she grants Nene access to the Pandora Device inside Clarion, a system that temporarily grants the user mastery of extraordinary abilities. While publicly presumed dead after her laboratory collapses, she survives and continues to operate from the shadows, manipulating events and observing the actions of Nene and others.
Her key relationships are complex and deeply intertwined with her past. She shares a profound and significant history with Takumi Korobase, Nene's aunt and a fellow genius scientist. Both were once members of the villainous organization Poseidon, where Uzal was known simply as Number 386 and Takumi as Number 1093. They eventually betrayed and escaped from Poseidon together, an act that forged a deep, lasting bond that some interpret as having strong romantic undertones. Uzal also created Clarion, whom she views primarily as a tool, specifically a body for a massive brain, though Clarion later refers to her as "Mom," a term that visibly delights Uzal. Another significant creation is Buer, a sentient and uncontrollable weapon that appears as a misshapen teddy bear and plays a major role in the island's crises.
Throughout the narrative, Uzal demonstrates significant development. She transitions from a quirky ally who provides Nene with tools and guidance to a tragic final villain. Her body, already nearing its limit, is eventually sustained by a life support cradle, leaving her almost entirely mechanized. Her final plan to claim Clarion as her new body is thwarted when Clarion's AI escapes to return to Nene. In her final moments, she accepts her fate, finding a strange sense of satisfaction when Clarion calls her "Mom".
Uzal possesses a range of notable abilities that solidify her status as the story's foremost genius. Her intellect far surpasses the technological standards of her time, allowing her to create weapons and technology, such as the charged particle weapon Buer, that even the advanced world of Ghost in the Shell could not replicate or fully understand. She is a master of extreme preparedness, maintaining multiple backup modules, escape routes, and using sophisticated holographic projections to deceive her enemies. Her physical capabilities are also formidable; after her survival is revealed, she is able to annihilate a fleet of mass-produced Buer units and defeat the powerful Labrews with a single punch, showcasing the immense power of her artificial body. Her most legendary creation is the Pandora Device, an interface within Clarion that allows a compatible user like Nene to temporarily download and master any skill, from expert marksmanship to advanced hacking.
