Description
Orba is a character in the anime Witchy Precure! who belongs to the faction known as the servants of the Endless Chaos, followers of the entity Deusmast. He is a demon-like being who awakened ahead of his fellow servants Labu, Sharkins, and Benigyo, and he initially chose to act alone while following his own interests before later joining the others once they had revived.
In appearance, Orba takes the form of a slender, handsome young man with pale skin, hair that is yellow with blue tips, and two horns on his head. He is typically dressed in blue clothing with a black shawl draped over his shoulders, and he is sometimes seen wearing glasses and reading books. When he unleashes his full power in battle, he reveals a different form in which his hair stands on end, his nails extend into sharp claws, a tail-like appendage grows from his body, black and white wings resembling those of a demon or fallen angel emerge from his back, and eye-like patterns appear on parts of his body, giving him a fierce and imposing appearance.
Orba is composed, rational, and fond of reading, and he displays genuine curiosity about human life and customs. This sets him apart from his fellow servants, who generally look down on humanity. Despite his mild outward manner, he is cold and ruthless when carrying out his mission. His friendly behavior is deceptive, as he views other beings primarily as tools for satisfying his own intellectual curiosity. When angered, his calm composure disappears and he becomes openly contemptuous, referring to others as insects and lower creatures. He also carries the same arrogance shared by the servants of chaos, believing that beings as powerful as themselves cannot lose to humans, which causes him to underestimate his opponents.
His motivations center on two goals: understanding the secret behind the Precure's extraordinary power and advancing the revival of Deusmast and the other servants. To achieve the first goal, he sends the creature Chikurun into the Precure's group as a spy, calling Chikurun his friend even though he actually forces cooperation by holding leverage over him. Through Chikurun's reports, Orba later develops an interest in the plush companion Mofurun. When Chikurun is eventually won over by the Precure and sides with them, Orba shows little concern.
Orba is also revealed to be the originator of the dark magic that plays a significant role in the story. Before the servants were sealed away, he deliberately scattered fragments of information about the forbidden power known as Muhō throughout the magical world, anticipating that gifted individuals would be drawn to it, gather the pieces, and come to use the power. Because this dark magic was an adaptation of Muhō that humans could wield, its use gradually weakened the seal and created the conditions for the servants to return. This scheme is also what led the witch Kushi to fall to the dark side and become Dokurokushi, making Orba indirectly responsible for her transformation.
In the later part of the story, Orba uses dark magic to revive Dokurokushi's servants and employs them as pawns. He then draws the Precure into the site of the ritual meant to restore the remaining sealed servants and confronts them directly. During the battle, his attack is defeated by a creation of Batty, an ally he had treated with disdain, and the shock causes him to drop his composed facade, reveal his monstrous true form, and attack in a rage. He is ultimately destroyed by the Precure's final attack, but just before the finishing blow lands, he pours all of his remaining power into the magical book, sacrificing himself in order to complete the revival ritual. He later reappears when Deusmast finally descends, serving as one of the beings who convey Deusmast's will, but the Precure are prepared for this event and purify him once more, resulting in his complete and permanent elimination.
In terms of abilities, Orba commands the dark magic he himself created, wields attacks called Don'yokubaru, and uses dark magic for rituals such as the resurrection of other beings. He also possesses a powerful combat form that he brings out when seriously fighting. His intelligence and scheming make him one of the more calculating members of his faction, but his pride and his failure to take the Precure's full potential seriously ultimately work against him.
