Noriaki Sugiyama
Description
Noriaki Sugiyama is a Japanese voice actor and narrator born on March 9, 1974, in Tokyo, Japan. He is affiliated with the talent agency Stay-Luck, having joined it in February 2016 after a career that included time at Production Baobab and Axl-One, as well as a period as a freelancer. He is a graduate of the Tokyo Announce Gakuin Performing Arts College.
Sugiyama's aspiration to become a voice actor began after high school when he came across materials for a voice actor training school, which sparked his interest in professions that involve the voice. He made his debut in 1999, with his first regular role in an anime series coming in 2002.
His career is defined by several iconic and long-running roles in major anime franchises. He is widely recognized for his portrayal of Sasuke Uchiha in the Naruto series, a role that brought him international recognition and began in 2002. That same year, he also began voicing Uryū Ishida in Bleach, another character he has continued to play in后续 projects like Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. In 2004, he took on the role of Shirō Emiya in the Fate/stay night series, a character he has reprised across numerous anime adaptations, including the Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel film trilogy, and video games. Another signature role is the personification of England in the Hetalia franchise, a part he has played since Hetalia: Axis Powers in 2009.
Beyond these foundational roles, Sugiyama has demonstrated his range across a wide variety of series. He has played William T. Spears in Black Butler, Akira Inukai in ReLIFE, Jin Yomoda in Hinomaru Sumo, Kuromu in BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense, and Kreis in The Fruit of Evolution. His recent and ongoing roles include Grim in Disney Twisted-Wonderland, Nero in Promise of Wizard, and Kinich in the video game Genshin Impact. He has also been recognized for his work in video games, providing voices for characters such as Gray Fox in the Metal Gear Solid series and Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure games.
In addition to his voice acting, Sugiyama has pursued music, releasing a solo CD single titled Fragment and a mini-album, On The Way. His character song for England in Hetalia, "絶対不敗英国紳士" (The Absolutely Undefeated British Gentleman), achieved notable success, reaching number two on the Oricon Singles Chart in 2009. He has also hosted radio programs, including his own channel on Niconico, and is active on a YouTube channel where he often plays video games with fellow voice actors.
