ONA
Description
Grim is a mysterious, cat-like monster who serves as a central figure at Night Raven College, driven by an immense ambition to become a great and renowned mage. His small stature is belied by a large and often troublesome personality. He has grey fur with a white patch on his chest and pink paw pads on his feet. The most distinctive features of his appearance are the electric blue flames that constantly blaze from his ears and his bright blue eyes. He typically wears a torn, black-and-white striped bow tie with a light purple gemstone at his chest, and his tail has a unique shape resembling a pitchfork.

Grim's personality is a mix of mischievousness, pride, and surprising vulnerability. He is initially presented as devilish and troublesome, prone to causing chaos wherever he goes. He is highly narcissistic and boasts frequently about his magical talents, even when his abilities do not yet match his claims. This pride drives him to extreme lengths, such as setting fire to a ceremonial hall in an attempt to force his acceptance into the prestigious college. He craves attention and admiration, once joining a major spelldrive tournament simply for public exposure. Despite his bravado, Grim is easily impressed by new things, deeply curious about the world, and surprisingly easy to provoke or taunt. He enjoys teasing others, particularly his close companions, but as time passes, he develops a genuine attachment to them, especially the main character, over whom he can become quite protective and possessive.

Almost nothing is known about Grim's past before his arrival at Night Raven College. He himself cannot recall his childhood, only remembering a time of waking up alone, cold, and hungry. The only hint of his history is a vague nickname he remembers being called at home: Grim the Digger. He joins the main character in a special, non-standard enrollment at the college after a chaotic beginning, and together they reside in the run-down Ramshackle Dorm. His primary motivation is to rise from an outcast to a position of greatness, proving his worth as a powerful mage. Over the course of the story, he and the main character witness several mages succumb to a dangerous state known as overblot, caused by negative emotions and the overuse of magic. After each of these incidents, Grim is drawn to eat the concentrated black crystals of blot left behind. This habit has a profound and dangerous effect on him; he becomes addicted to the crystals, his behavior grows increasingly hostile and unstable, and he eventually attacks the main character in a berserk state, believing they are trying to steal his stones. This incident leads to his capture and a deep sense of regret, as he is horrified by his own actions once he regains his senses.

Grim's key relationships are primarily with his small circle of friends. He spends most of his time with the main character, forming a deep, if sometimes possessive, bond as roommates and partners. He also develops a strong, teasing camaraderie with fellow first-years Ace Trappola and Deuce Spade. These relationships are central to his development, as he transitions from a selfish troublemaker focused only on his own glory to someone who values the company of his friends and occasionally makes selfless efforts to look out for them. He is also an object of curiosity and scrutiny for Headmaster Dire Crowley, who takes a particular interest in Grim's unique nature and his ability to consume blot crystals.

Regarding his notable abilities, Grim has a natural talent for fire-based magic. While he lacks precision and a strong single talent in other magical areas, he has shown the capacity to draw on other spells. A mysterious and ancient spell has been cast on him, making it impossible to accurately measure his blot accumulation, a trait shared with a notable family of mages and something that researchers could not find the origin of. Furthermore, as he consumes more blot crystals, his magical power temporarily increases, though this comes with severe instability and mental corruption, allowing him to use dark magic in a feral, uncontrolled state.
