Description
Arystar Krory III is a tall individual of Romanian nationality, standing at 190 centimeters tall with a weight of 77 kilograms, and has an AB blood type with a birthday of December first. His most defining physical traits are his sharp, pointed ears and prominent fangs, which contribute to a vampiric appearance that has often led to him being mistaken for a vampire by those who do not know him. He has short, dark hair with a distinct white forelock; the position of this forelock is an immediate indicator of his mental state, hanging down when he is calm and standing on end when his battle instincts take over. During combat, his facial features become more savage, veins protrude, and his eyes take on a darker, more menacing quality.
Before becoming an Exorcist, Arystar lived an extremely sheltered life, confined to his grandfather's castle. Following his grandfather's death, he was left with the sole instruction to care for the giant carnivorous plants that filled the castle grounds, a duty he followed faithfully despite it leading to a deep depression and loneliness. The local villagers shunned him, believing him to be a bloodthirsty vampire due to his strange appearance and his habit of attacking certain people. In reality, these attacks were the result of his unnamed parasitic Innocence, which resided in his teeth and instinctively drove him to hunt and drink the blood of akuma, a fact neither he nor the villagers understood at the time.
His personality is distinctly dual-faceted, a direct result of his isolation and the nature of his powers. In his normal, everyday state, Arystar is profoundly kind, sensitive, and naive. He is prone to being overly emotional, easily flustered, and can be moved to tears by simple gestures of kindness or moments of stress. His lack of social experience makes him incredibly gullible and innocent about the outside world, leading to comical situations where he is easily scammed or makes simple mistakes, such as eating a large amount of wasabi on its own. However, when his Innocence is activated and he consumes the blood of an akuma, he transforms into a different persona. In this state, he becomes a fierce, violent, and relentless fighter, driven by a wild rage and incredible strength. Despite this savage shift, his core loyalty remains intact, and he never attacks those he considers allies, maintaining a distinction between his enemies and his friends even in his most frenzied state. Over time, these two sides of his personality began to merge, granting him a greater degree of control over his battle instincts.
Arystar's introduction to the wider world and his role as an Exorcist is deeply tied to tragedy. He fell deeply in love with a young woman named Eliade, who lived with him in the castle. Unbeknownst to him, Eliade was a Level 2 akuma sent by the Millennium Earl to investigate the castle. When Exorcists Allen Walker and Lavi arrived, they revealed the truth, forcing Eliade to try to kill Arystar. The ensuing battle was brutal, culminating in Arystar killing the woman he loved by drinking all of her blood. Devastated by her death and what he had done, he attempted to end his own life using his grandfather's plants. He was stopped by Allen and Lavi, who offered him a new purpose, leading him to join the Black Order as an Exorcist to find a reason for Eliade's death and to fight against the akuma.
His key relationships are built on his new life within the Order. He shares a particularly close bond with Allen and Lavi, who were the first to befriend him and who affectionately tease him with nicknames like Kro-chan or Krokins. He is intensely loyal to them and relies on them for guidance in navigating a world he does not understand. He also has a deep respect for his comrades, such as Lenalee Lee, whom he was so nervous about meeting that he wept after shaking her hand. His relationships are marked by his earnestness and his profound fear of being rejected or seen as a monster, a fear that often manifests as overwhelming gratitude when others show him acceptance.
Arystar Krory's development is a journey from a lonely, isolated man consumed by self-pity and a desire for death to a dedicated soldier fighting for a cause greater than himself. The memory of Eliade remains a painful but driving force for him, motivating his fight against the akuma that took her from him. He continues to struggle with his nature, often becoming disheartened when his actions, even in victory, cause distress to the people he is trying to protect. Nonetheless, he perseveres, learning to trust his new family and slowly gaining more confidence in his abilities and his place in the world.
Arystar's notable abilities stem entirely from his unnamed parasitic Innocence, which is housed in his teeth. The core of his power lies in his blood. By drinking the blood of an akuma, he can temporarily enhance his own strength and speed to superhuman levels, as well as regenerate from injuries. His blood is also an incredibly potent poison to akuma; by injecting his own blood into an enemy, he can destroy them from the inside, an attack he named Crimson based on the red particles left behind. He can manipulate his own blood for defensive and offensive purposes, such as coating his fists in hardened blood to create powerful gauntlets for fortifying his punches. He is also able to use his blood as a cure, sucking the akuma poison out of an infected ally to save them, though this process leaves him completely exhausted. His ultimate technique is Bloody Krory, where he expels a significant portion of his own blood from his body and remotely controls it to form a nearly invulnerable, winged mannequin that can attack with his maximum strength.
