Description
Naiichi Tayori is a client featured in an episode of the anime The Laughing Salesman NEW. He is a 34-year-old man who works as a foreman or site supervisor. His everyday life is ordinary and he appears to be a solitary individual without a clear romantic connection. The episode in which he appears centers on an incident involving a roll of film. Tayori comes into possession of developed photographs that were not originally his, and within these images he discovers a woman whose likeness captivates him. This discovery sparks a deep infatuation and a desire to meet her in person. Because he has no natural way to find or approach her, he turns to the mysterious salesman Fukuzou Moguro for assistance. Moguro agrees to help facilitate a meeting. Tayori follows Moguro's instructions and waits outside a building where the woman is expected to appear. The encounter does not proceed as Tayori had hoped, and his reliance on Moguro leads to an outcome that exposes the gap between his romantic fantasy and reality. Tayori's personality is defined by a mix of passive longing and a willingness to accept outside help rather than acting on his own initiative. His motivations are driven by loneliness and a romanticized view of a stranger based solely on a photograph. His role in the story is that of a typical Moguro client: a person with an emotional or spiritual void who seeks a quick solution through Moguro's intervention. The key relationship in his story is with Moguro, who acts as both enabler and eventual punisher. Tayori does not undergo any lasting positive development; instead, his experience serves as a cautionary example of what happens when someone indulges obsessive desire without respecting boundaries or understanding the full nature of the bargain. He possesses no notable supernatural abilities and is presented as an ordinary working man whose mundane life is disrupted by a sudden, consuming fixation.
