Description
Aoi Yaegaki is a character from the anime Qualidea Code, where she serves as a resident of the Tokyo defense city and is a high school student who possesses supernatural powers known as World. Within the narrative, she is not one of the primary protagonists from the three major cities but exists as a supporting figure, specifically noted as having once been the backup for Maihime Tenkawa, the powerful chief of the Kanagawa ward, before the arrival of Hotaru Rindou.

Regarding her background, Aoi is part of the generation of children who were placed into cold sleep during the initial invasion by the alien enemy known as the Unknown. Upon waking decades later, she, like others, discovered she had developed psychic abilities to fight in the ongoing war. She has a strong sense of justice and is characterized as a kind and compassionate person who cares deeply for her friends and family. This caring nature manifests in a fiercely protective personality, particularly concerning her younger brother, for whom she is willing to risk her own life. Despite being a capable fighter, she often operates in the shadow of more prominent warriors, leading to a perception by her peers that she is less useful than she truly is.

In terms of her abilities, Aoi is a skilled combatant proficient in hand-to-hand fighting. She also possesses a specific World power, the nature of which is notably different from the more destructive abilities of other characters. Her primary ability facilitates communication between people. However, its true strength lies in a unique nullification property; Aoi can activate her World to prevent other individuals from using their own World powers, effectively neutralizing enemy fighters and creating a significant tactical advantage for her allies. When fighting directly, she can also use her power to read an opponent's surface thoughts when standing face to face with them.

Aoi has critical connections to several characters. She has a close relationship with the adults Gutoku Asanagi and Airi Yuunami, who effectively become her adoptive parents during the story. Airi, in particular, holds a deep affection for Aoi, and the revelation of Aoi's tragic history and her bond with Airi serves as a significant emotional driver in the final episodes. She also shares a rivalry and a key confrontation with Asuha Chigusa, the chief of the Chiba ward. Their fight reveals that Aoi is far from weak, as she manages to nearly defeat the more prominent frontline fighter before ultimately being overcome.

Aoi undergoes significant development during the series finale. She experiences a major internal conflict that leads her to temporarily leave her human allies and side with Gutoku against them. This decision stems from her complex personal history and loyalty to her surrogate family. Tragically, her story concludes with her death. After the final battle against the Unknown, Aoi is laid to rest, and her grave marker by the seaside becomes a focal point for the surviving main characters to reflect on the nature of the enemy and the losses they have endured.
