Description
Escha Malier is a fifteen-year-old girl who serves as one of the main characters in her story. She lives in the remote border town of Colseit, a region known for its apple orchards, where her family has been farmers for generations. Escha is a newly appointed official of the Development Team, which operates under the local branch of the Unentered Area Special Investigation Bureau. Prior to her official appointment, she frequently assisted the team with her alchemic skills before being formally assigned at the same time as her new colleague, Logix Ficsario, commonly known as Logy.
In terms of personality, Escha is consistently cheerful, energetic, and driven by a strong sense of curiosity. She expresses her feelings openly and approaches her work with considerable diligence. While she can be impulsive at times and occasionally shows a shy side, her overall demeanor is that of a spirited and hardworking individual. A notable personal quirk is her love for sweets, particularly apple tarts, which reflects her upbringing in an apple-farming family.
Escha's primary motivation stems from a desire to use alchemy to bring happiness to others. This goal is deeply inspired by her late mother, who worked for the benefit of their community at the same age. Her dream is to utilize her knowledge to explore the mysterious floating structure known as the Unexplored Ruin, a goal she has cherished since childhood after being read folklore about it. This dream becomes a central driving force behind her efforts in the Development Team.
Within the story, Escha works alongside her partner Logy in the Development Team of Colseit. The team is tasked with completing various assignments to demonstrate their value and contribute to the town. Escha takes on the role of an item synthesizer, using her cauldron to create a wide range of usable items, ingredients, and accessories. Her personal journey involves her growth from a self-taught beginner into a more accomplished alchemist.
Escha maintains several key relationships that define her world. Her partnership with Logy is central, as his modern alchemy techniques complement her traditional, family-taught methods. She is supported by other colleagues, including the team's班长 Marion Quinn and the guard Linca. In the absence of her mother, Miria, Escha is cared for by Clone, an automaton who was her mother's close friend and acts as a motherly figure to her.
Throughout her story, Escha undergoes significant development as she works alongside her team to build an airship, a project that directly enables her to finally reach the floating ruins. This journey allows her to move beyond simple dreams and actively use her abilities to uncover the secrets of her twilight world.
In terms of notable abilities, Escha practices a traditional, old-school style of alchemy that involves stirring a cauldron. This family method is distinct from the modern alchemy practiced by Logy. On the battlefield, she acts as an item specialist. While she lacks raw physical strength, she becomes highly proficient at using her synthesized items offensively and supportively, complementing Logy's more direct combat style. A unique and notable personal attribute is the small tail accessory attached to her clothing, which was made by her mother. Despite being a decoration, it visibly moves in response to Escha's emotions, though the mechanism behind its movement remains a mystery even to her.
