Rie Murakawa is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on June 1, 1990, in Saitama Prefecture. Her interest in voice acting began in the fifth grade after watching the anime Hunter x Hunter, inspired by the performance of voice actress Yuki Kaida. To pursue this goal, she enrolled in the Human Academy vocational college in 2009 and later trained at the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society (Haikyō) voice acting school. Upon completing her studies in 2011, she became an official member of Haikyō, marking the start of her professional career. In October 2020, she transferred her agency affiliation to Stay Luck.

Murakawa's first anime role was as Coco in the 80th episode of Fairy Tail. She continued in supporting roles until 2013, when she landed her first main role as Aoi Futaba in Vividred Operation. That same year, she was cast as Hotaru Ichijō in Non Non Biyori, a role that would become one of her most recognized and long-running performances, spanning multiple television seasons, OVAs, and a vacation-themed film. She also portrayed Escha Malier in both the video game Atelier Escha & Logy and its subsequent anime adaptation.

Murakawa has built a prolific career with a wide range of notable roles. She is well-known for voicing Ram in the Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World franchise, a role that appears across the main series, OVAs like Memory Snow and The Frozen Bond, and the crossover comedy series Isekai Quartet and its film. She also plays Megumi Natsu in the Is the order a rabbit? series, including its sequels, a film, and a music unit with her co-stars. Her other significant roles include Najimi Osana in Komi Can't Communicate, Tiona Hiryute in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? and its spin-off Sword Oratoria, Jacqueline in Show By Rock!!, Naoe Kanno in Brave Witches, and Constanze Braunschbank Albrechtsberger in Little Witch Academia. In 2019, she voiced the villain Eyeone in Star Twinkle Pretty Cure, having previously expressed interest in being part of the franchise.

In addition to her voice acting, Murakawa has an active career as a singer. She made her solo debut under the Nippon Columbia label on June 1, 2016, with the single Sweet Sensation/Baby, My First Kiss. Several of her songs have been used as theme music for anime, including Dokidoki no Kaze for Kiss Him, Not Me, Tiny Tiny for Frame Arms Girl, and Distance for Hinamatsuri. She has released multiple singles and two albums, RiEMUSiC in 2017 and RiESiNFONiA in 2018.

Her work has been recognized with several accolades. She won the Best Funny Radio (Rookie) and Best Comfort Radio (General) awards at the 2nd Aniraji Awards in 2016 for her work hosting radio programs. In 2022, she was part of the cast for Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World that won the Best in Voice Cast award at the Anime Trending Awards. Murakawa is known by the nickname "Rieshon," which was coined from her self-described characteristics of passion, reaction, and high tension. She is also referred to as the "Haikyō's ultimate weapon," a title given to her by senior colleague Satomi Sato.
