Description
Ayame "Himeaya" Himeno arrives as a transfer student at Sakura Daini Junior High School, quickly becoming popular and winning the school's Princess★Contest. She possesses the innate ability to see Yo-kai, a power linked to her heritage as a descendant of the legendary priest Reibaishi. This lineage also grants her latent magical abilities. She first manifests these abilities spontaneously after witnessing Bruno Tsukinami use magic during a beach investigation, replicating his techniques without training and surprising the Yo-kai Detective Agency.
Her life becomes complicated when the evil spider Yo-kai Lady Arachnia possesses her. Lady Arachnia manipulates Ayame's "princess" identity to locate a legendary man for resurrection. During this possession, Ayame experiences memory lapses and her eyes occasionally glow red-grey, while Lady Arachnia uses her body to communicate with allies like Theo and Voidera. The possession reaches its climax in SS030 when Lady Arachnia is forcibly expelled from Ayame during a curse-transfer ritual, leaving Ayame comatose and near death. She remains in this state until SS032, when the Yo-kai Detective Agency defeats Lady Arachnia, breaking the curse and freeing her permanently.
After recovering, Ayame begins formal magic training under Bruno and his grandmother to master her inherited abilities. She joins the Yo-kai Detective Agency as an official member, assisting with supernatural cases. She forms close bonds with Summer Adams, Cole, and Bruno, participating in investigations despite initial fears about danger. Ayame is characterized by her gentle, kind, and empathetic personality, consistently prioritizing others' well-being even when frightened. She exhibits a unique appreciation for misunderstood Yo-kai, such as defending and supporting Filmlin—a Yo-kai born from a rejected horror film—when others recoil.
Her heritage as Reibaishi's descendant is further explored later, confirming her magical aptitude is innate and unrelated to the possession. She appears as a side character in the video game *Yo-kai Watch 4* and makes a cameo in the film *Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends*. Her name, "Himeno Ayame," combines "princess" (姫, *hime*) and "iris flower" (アヤメ, *ayame*), reflecting her elegant demeanor.
