Description
"Gochuumon wa Usagi Desuka?" is a slice-of-life anime series set in the fictional European-style town of Colmar. The story revolves around the daily lives of a group of girls who work and interact at Café Rabbit House, a quaint coffee shop. Cocoa Hoto, a cheerful and energetic high school student, moves to Colmar to attend school and ends up living above the café. She quickly becomes acquainted with Chino Kafuu, the café owner’s granddaughter, who is reserved and initially finds Cocoa’s exuberance overwhelming. Despite their contrasting personalities, the two form a close bond.
The narrative expands to include other characters who frequent or work at the café. Rize Tedeza, a disciplined and military-enthusiast girl, and Chiya Ujimatsu, a carefree and traditional tea enthusiast, are classmates and friends of Cocoa and Chino. Together, they navigate school life, work at the café, and engage in lighthearted adventures around town. The series also introduces Syaro Kirima, a part-time worker at Café Rabbit House who hides her aristocratic background, and Maya Jōga, a clumsy but kind-hearted girl who works at a rival café, Ama Usa An.
The plot is episodic, focusing on the girls’ interactions, humorous situations, and small-scale challenges. Themes of friendship, personal growth, and the joys of everyday life are central to the story. The café serves as a hub for their activities, blending moments of comedy, warmth, and occasional sentimentality. The series maintains a lighthearted tone, with occasional nods to the characters’ individual quirks and backgrounds, such as Chino’s attachment to her pet rabbit, Tippy, or Rize’s fascination with military culture.
As the story progresses, the characters’ relationships deepen, and their shared experiences at Café Rabbit House create a sense of community. The anime balances its focus on the café’s operations with the girls’ school life and personal interests, offering a wholesome and engaging portrayal of their world. The narrative avoids high-stakes drama, instead emphasizing the charm of ordinary moments and the bonds formed through shared time and effort.
